SCA Persona Summary
Vörös Janós is a late 14th century Hungarian knight who suffers from an extreme case of TD (Temporal Disfunction). Having always possessed a keen interest in old things, Janos has recently found himself enamoured with the 11th, 12th and early 13th centuries in the Carpathian Basin. Perhaps this is a reaction against the strong Angevin imports which began with the coronation of Charles Robert at the opening of the 14th century, or perhaps it is because the French who have made their way to Hungary seem very arrogant. More likely, however, is Janos' own fascination with his steppe and woodland background. For example, his elderly grandparents and aunts have told him that Magyars were not exclusively from the Steppes, and not all had served under the Khazar Khaganate along the Black Sea. Some, it seems, thrived in the woodlands to the north of the Steppes and there came into contact with Germanic peoples, including the powerful Norseman who trade all up and down the rivers of the Rus. During his formative years Janos traveled with the Hungarian armies into Dalmatia and to the city states of Italy themselves. Having proven an astute observer of people and having been educated in the household of a powerful warlord, Janos' skills proved useful to his patrons. Under their banners he has ventured into Bohemia, Poland, and Austria. He has found these places fascinating, but perhaps pompous in their beliefs of their own superiority. Janos has seen the Steppe peoples, and he knows old folk who remember their parents encountering the might of the hordes. Although it has been no more than a mere century since the Khans' armies knocked on the very doorstep of Vienna (and the whole of the western world), it is a wonder to Janos that these powerful kingdoms ignore the fact that only Hungary and her neighbors stand between western Europe and the fiercest warriors the world has known.

In the future look for...
* more specific data and research on Carpathian Basin material culture
* pictures and maps of the basin and archaeological remains
* some fun pictures from my romp around the UK, including from the
British Museum and castle sites
* SCA-related material, including (I hope) some photos
