Nikki: Very short, sad, and sweet. I seem to be better at writing short stories than long ones, for some weird reason. Dunno. This is my second finished Gundam Wing fic, and both have Heero as a main character. *grumble, grumble* Why Heero? Why not Trowa?
Duo: Why not me?
Nikki: *sighs* Are you still hanging out around here, Duo?
Duo: I have to, until you finish your website and I can get to work. By the way, those two weird girls in the miniskirts are fighting again. I'm taking bets on whether they'll blow up your house again.
Nikki: *glares* They better not! *walks away, angry* Palla Palla! Saturn! Stop that right now!
Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing. *cheerful* But, I do own Duo! *holds up a contract* He really should consult a lawyer with a magnifying glass before signing these things.
It was very, very cold.
Everything used to be warmth and sunshine. He usually couldn't remember… but a bit was coming back now. A name? Yes, a name. Odin Lowe. The child of a very happy couple. He could remember his father, a happy man who always had a twinkle in his eye, and his mother, a loving woman who would give the world to her son if she could. They both were friends with a kind man who spoke of peace a lot.
Heero Yuy? A familiar name, but not his own. It belonged to the peaceful man. Then one day the nice man was shot, and the boy's mother and father didn't come home. The strange man with a claw for a hand and a glass eye told him so, and he believed it, after a while. Then he went with the man, and soon he didn't remember his parents anymore, and he took the nice man's name. Heero Yuy.
There was a lot of work to do. Physically and mentally. Doctor J, the claw and glass eye man, insisted he get every single problem in every subject perfect, that he was in perfect physical shape, and he could hack into any computer. And, very gradually, he forgot his past.
One day, the boy now known as Heero Yuy overheard Doctor J and another man talking about blowing up a colony and sending the gundams to Earth, and complaining that Heero wasn't a perfect assassin yet. After that, Doctor J stopped trying to stomp his emotions out of it, not that it matters, since they were nearly gone.
Years later, he met a girl. Relena Peacecraft. She had a crush on Heero, but he only thought of her as the little sister he never had. He tried to make sure no one blew up a colony and started Operation Meteor.
Once, on a mission, Heero had a dream. At least, it felt like one. Heero was happy, running around La Grange Point One, his home colony. He rolled down a hill in the grass and laughed for the sheer fun of it.
As he was laying in the grass, a little girl in a cute dress and her white puppy ran over, giggling. She smiled at him.
"Are you lost?"
What a strange question he thought.
"I know exactly where I am. Mary and I came out for a picnic." She paused, still smiling, then repeated, "Are you lost?"
Heero shook his head.
"No? Okay then." The little girl giggled again, handed him a yellow flower, then was pulled off by her dog, since she was still holding the leash. "C'mon, Mary!"
When Heero woke up, he was badly injured, laying near a military base he had just blown up. He tore off a piece of his shirt and bandaged himself as best he could, then tried walking back to his gundam. On his way, he thought he saw Mary, the white puppy, laying dead in the wreckage.
And now, was he dreaming again? The last thing he could remember was being with Duo and the other pilots, shooting at the enemies…

"Heero?" Duo looked at his friend. Heero was unconscious, laying on a white bed in the hospital. The doctors and nurses were scrambling around, trying to save him. Duo, Trowa, Quatre, and Wufei could only watch through the glass window. Relena had been called and was on her way.
"Don't die on me, buddy," Duo whispered.

Heero was standing in a long white hall. To the left end was a hospital room, where doctors were trying to keep a boy alive. To the right end was a bright white light.
"Are you lost?"
He whipped his head in front to see a small girl in a blue dress holding a leash for her white dog. This seemed oddly familiar, but he couldn't remember why at the moment. Upon seeing a yellow flower in his hand, he instinctively gave it to the girl, who took it and giggled.
"Thank you. Mary and I are taking a walk. Are you lost?"
Heero looked at her, confused.

"We're losing him!"
A steady beep.
"Clear!"
The beep jumped again, then took small jumps.
Tears were coming down all the boys faces. Quatre gave a small whimper. "Come on Heero, you can do this…"

Everything was swirling around in Heero's head… he was so confused, lost…
"Yes," he said finally. "I think I am."
"Then I'll give you directions. Go left and join your friends. Go right and join your parents."
His eyes lit up. "My… parents? Really?"
She nodded solemnly, the offered a hand. "I'll take you there, if you want."
He took it. "Thank you."
They walked towards the bright light.

The second time, they couldn't start his heart again. Relena ran in at just that moment, and when the doctor came in and told them all was lost, she burst out crying. And slowly, all of their emotional defenses broke down, and they began crying too.

"Odin?"
"Mom! Dad!"
"We missed you, son."
"It's alright now. I'm home. I'll stay with you till the end of time."
*A shot goes in-between Palla and Saturn. They stop fighting.*
Trowa: *holding a gun* Are you two quite finished now?
Palla and Saturn: Yes, sir.
Duo: *stares blankly, then whispers to Nikki* Why are they scared of a gun if one's got those weird gems and the other has a giant glaive?
Nikki: I think Trowa told them he'd sic Wing-Zero Quatre on them if they didn't behave. *faces the reader* Sorry 'bout this. But don't forget to e-mail me at darienicole@hotmail.com with comments and criticism!
Saturn: Flames will be used for my target practice.
Duo: Who are you guys talking to?
