Fishing on the Delaware River

The past twenty years have seen incredible changes in the Delaware River . Implementation of the Clean Water Act has improved the water quality to such an extent that the fishing gets better every year

SHAD

Mar. Apr.May.Best

This popular sport fish spawns annually in the mid and upper Delaware River. Shad can be caught on darts, spoons, and flies from April through early June. Shad average 3-6 pounds and are excellent sport on light tackle.

WALLEYE

Febuary-November Best

These fish can average 18-22 inches with larger fishing the 7-10 pound range common. They are abundant but can be tricky. Winter fishing is best.

STRIPERS

May-November Best

Big stripers got that way because they are smart and/or lazy. Rather than chase bait all over, they let it come to them. This means structure fishing. Fast water, tide rips, ledges, humps, deep holes Ect. Stripers will lie in ambush and let tide, current and wave action do the work

CATFISH

May-November Best

Summer is truly trophy time for 20 lb.+ Channel Catfish. These huge fish are in our river system from the start of the fishing season through early fall. People come from across the U.S., Canada and Europe for these brutes.

SMALL MOUTH BASS

May-November Best

The Smallmouth Bass is one of the most exciting game fish in the world. The fight of the Smallmouth is one of the most difficult and spectacular I have ever had the pleasure to experience. Smallmouths were found mainly in the northern Great Lake region before 1900, but as time passed these Smallmouths were stocked in many lakes, rivers, and reservoirs. The Smallmouth is a very close relative to the largemouth bass though they do differ in many ways. The Smallmouth prefers cooler water found in northern regions.

MUSKIE

Febuary-November Best

Spring is the time when serious Muskie fisherman take to the waters in search of trophy Muskie. Casting suckers tied the "old fashioned way" is one sure way to get your heart pumping when a Muskie crushes your bait. Summer Muskie fishing can be just as exciting. Casting artificial baits and topwater lures provide the angler with the excitement of "thunder on the water."
