There are several different ways how to do a holiday and how to travel a country. You can do it with friends, on your own or with a group. Travelling on your own has the disadvantage that you cannot share your impressions with others and that you probably have to pay twice as much for a motel room. Not to mention the dangers of being robbed or even worst things when you are travelling alone.

When I wanted to go to the USA a few years ago I didn't find anyone to join me. At the end I discovered a travel organisation called Contiki. They are organizing group tours for 18-35s. I enjoyed it so much that I did another tour with them last year in Canada. Here are my experiences and impressions. Of course they are absolutely subjective, however I believe a holiday is always as good as you make it. It depends on YOU! Most people are very prejudiced regarding organized tours. They think of them as these horrible tours where you are traveling with a lot of old people in coach, just rushing from one point of interest to the other and having no time at all for yourself. With Contiki I never had the feeling of rushing from one place to the other. Well, I guess that were enough excuses and explanations.

I started the tour on July 12, 1995 in Vancouver, BC. You have the possibility to start either from Seattle or Vancouver. This is your choice. You may like to arrive earlier and do some days on your own before the tour starts. Vancouver has a lot to offer. It is a very beautiful city surrounded by the mountains. There are a lot to see and a lot to do. Here are a few things you ought to see:

  • Gastown
  • Robson Street
  • Stanley Park
  • Granville Island
  • Vancouver Island

If you have enough time you should go to Vancouver Island for some days. It is a very beautiful island. Visit Victoria or go out for whale watching on a boat.
