The Tour: On our first day we went from Vancouver to Kelowna. Kelowna is in the Okanagen Valley, Canada's 'Fruit Basket'. We rented a barge with a spa and cruised the lake. Some of us rented some jetski, the others joined the spa. On the second day we went from Kelowna to Banff. We saw Roger's Pass, part of Glacier-Yoho Nation Park, before entering Banff National Park, the first national park in Canada and the third created in the world. The park was created in 1885 and protects over 6641 sq km. This park has been designated a World Heritage Site in 1984. Banff is also known for its hot springs and the world famous Banff Springs Hotel. The Banff Springs Hotel is very opulent in appearance and it is very expensive too stay there of course. Still I would not like to have a room there if you consider the mass of tourists running around in the halls and outside the building. On the next day we took a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain (2300m) for breakfast. You have a fantastic view from there over Banff townsite, the Bow Valley, Lake Minnewanka and the surrounding mountain ranges. For those who wanted to see even more, there was the opportunity to do an optional helicopter flight over the Rockies after breakfast. If you didn't want to do that you had the day for yourself. Some went mountain biking, freeclimbing, canoeing, hiking, shopping or went for a spa at the hot springs. I did some hiking. It was amazing how tame the animals are in the national parks. They seem to know that they don't have to fear us.
In the late afternoon we all met again for a nice horse back ride with a barbeque at the end of it. It was a lot of fun eventhough I got a bit sore. :(
