St. Paul Campus Tunnels

The network of shallow steam tunnels under the St. Paul campus is one of the few extensive underground places in the Twin Cities that is not dug into the sandstone. Most of them are probably still in the glacial drift (aka topsoil.) Nevertheless, the tunnels would beat most other campus steam tunnels by a long shot - there are plenty of uphills and downhills and stairs connecting tunnels at different levels.

The tunnels basically run in a loop around the hill (northern part of campus) with dead-ends leading to nearby buildings, and there's a smaller loop around the southern half of campus. Some of the older buildings have extensive mechanical rooms and crawlspaces.
