Lathis Cove
Bonding Rules
The rules for becoming a Bonder, obviously.
The first rule, and the one that will never ever bend: Ya gotta have a page for your Bonder, and they gotta be on that page. I don't care whether they're Alskyrian, Pernese, Danachian, or whatever as long as they follow the rules. Just remember these are sea dragons who don't teleport, so if they come to Alskyr and Bond, they're staying here. Also, sea dragons that have been sponsored are welcome to stand. They have a very good chance to Bond, and Bond well, just because I happen to like sponsoring over adopting.
Please provide a link on your Bonder's page to Lathis Cove. Kinda long I know, but cutting and pasting isn't that hard.

No copied pages will be accepted. Copying is stealing. Nice people don't steal.
On the topic of stealing, you cannot say that you drew your sea dragon's image if you Bond, or alter it in any way other than resizing. These images were very kindly drawn and colored for Lathis Cove by Caerlady Tiala of Catena Island, so not only would you be stealing from me, you'd be stealing from her. That would be bad.
Keep in mind that the ranking system of sea dragons has nothing to do with their color, it depends on the individual dragon and dragoner. Take Covelady Taelenn and her purple Aselluiss. Rare colorings are just that: rare colors. The quality of your Bonder's story affects what color you get, but has nothing to do with what they can and can't accomplish in life.
Heterosexual Bonders will Bond with sea dragons of the same gender, homosexual Bonders with those of the opposite. Since colors aren't gender-specific on Alskyr, this is easy and makes sense.
Twelve years is the minimum age your Bonder should be, thirty the maximum. This rule may be bent as long as you tell me first, though I think it's a rather generous margin, because the dragon matures with the rider and there won't be any mating swims for the pair until both are old enough to handle it.
Two or three is generally the most Bonders I'd like for one person to send in. As with many of the other rules, exceptions can be made as long as you tell me about it first. We usually don't require an exact Bonder-to-egg ratio because of dud eggs and dragons choosing to go unBonded (and later being adopted or sponsored).
Abandoning dragons is not looked well on by this Cove, obviously. You get two shots. First time abandoning, you're banned from sending in another Bonder for a month. Second time and you're completely banned from Lathis. I'll also warn other Caerleaders, Aerieleaders, and Coveleaders about you; I dare say they won't be pleased.
You're allowed to send in Bonders at any time, whether there's a clutch on the Beaches or not (there usually will be). If by some miracle I get a lot in advance, then I'll just put 'em all on the Beaches and maybe have a really big clutch for a change. Otherwise clutches here are going to be small.
I'm not going to ask you to put some stupid little phrase in the comments box to show that you read the rules, though I'll probably be able to tell if you have no idea what you're doing. However, if you can tell me where I'm getting my sea dragons' names from then you'll get brownie points with me and probably a rarer colored dragon. It'll only work once, and if it seems odd then that's just too bad. Humor me, please.
(if you don't know, just don't worry about it)
If your Bonder doesn't Bond the first time around, please feel free to send them in again. You can always e-mail me and I'll tell you why they didn't Bond this time, maybe offer some suggestions. If that would offend you in some obscure way, then just don't mail me. You're still free to send them in again, since their chances of Bonding a second time are going to be higher.
Name suggestions...I do accept them, as the form shows, but the names of dragons coming from this Cove are somewhat themed. I might use yours if it catches my fancy, I might not. Don't get your hopes up. If you suggest a name that's in theme (you'll know if you do) then it's almost guaranteed I'll use it. Just maybe put in the comments that it's themed, and who or what in that theme it's modeled after. All sea dragons hatched here have names ending in "ss".
Bit of info - I don't like reserve slots. They're incredibly irritating, and I don't want to deal with them. If your Bonder isn't done then there's no reason to send him or her in, is there? Mostly complete Bonders are accepted, just not reserve slots. This rule will probably not bend except for an incredibly good reason.
Bonders are allowed to have pets. Where the pets come from, Alskyr or another world/realm, I don't particularly care. Just no more than two to one person, and you can't be Bonded to any, with the exception of flits, alis gryphs, and familiars if the story's done well. If not, or if you don't even know what familiars are, please don't have them. Also, no horses or skirr or runners when they come to the Cove. You can have them in the story but they can't be kept.
A little tip on how you make your page would be to not have bright neon text on a bright neon background. I doubt anyone who knew anything about how Caers, Aeries, and Coves work would do such a thing, but you never know. Also, CHECK YOUR SPELLING!!! A huge pet peeve of mine is bad spelling. I'm pretty good with English and I'm nitpicky, so please be nice and save me the trouble of pulling my hair out when I read your page. A little grammar can go a long way, and a few errors are okay, but if there are excessive amounts of bad grammar and/or spelling it lowers your chance to even Bond. Small clutches here, remember? If you know you've got a lot of those problems on your page and you don't know how to fix them, I'd be flattered if you e-mailed me and asked me to look it over. A convenient way around that problem for you.
Please join Lathis Cove's mailing list. The link is on the front page near the bottom. This list is how you'll know about swims, hatching, and other important events or announcements that could affect you in some major or minor way.
I'll give you one week to get your sea dragon up on your Bonder's page. If you can't make that deadline for some reason, even prolonged procrastination, please please PLEASE e-mail me telling me so! Giving you extended time is no problem, but abandoning is. If you don't mail me and your dragon is put in the abandoned section, you'll have two days to reclaim them. After that they're abandoned for good and others are allowed to adopt/sponsor them unless you can give me an extraordinary reason why they shouldn't be (computer crashing, no internet access, etc.). I've been there before, so I know what it feels like. If you give me such a reason and your dragon has already been adopted or sponsored, your persona can stand again for the next clutch with a different name and get the same color, no hard feelings.
Any questions or suggestions you might have for me are welcomed with open arms. Better to ask first than get in trouble later, right? So ask!
Now that you've read the long but necessary list of rules, go to the form!
