I guess it all started when the people at O'Brien couldn't decide whether they wanted a pro board or an amatuer's play thing. The end result - the Shifty. In fact, the Shifty was specially designed to blur the definitions between the two.

One of Shifty's plus points is in its stability. It offers the stability of most beginners boards yet without having to ride like an elephant. As of edging, some of us feel that it doesn't suit aggressive riders as it creates 'water splashes' on the toes when the rider is on the extreme sides. I personally didn't find it to be much of a problem though. =)

This board is a relatively slower; not the typical fast board, big air type. Then again, I've seen riders throwing out their huge tantrums and stuff on it, so I guess as much that it all depends on the rider's style. Moreover, it is quite forgiving on its landings, making it hard to fault.

Well, I really can't say that it gets the best of both worlds but it certainly packs some distinctive features making it a good board.
