Vengeance Rant
WWF Vengeance, from San Diego California, December 9th, 2001.
Your commentators for tonight are Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler. This is Lawler's first PPV since coming back, and I for one, miss Heyman, but still like Lawler, even if his jokes do get a bit tiresome.
"One Great Company, one great champion."
Promo:
Vengeance starts off with a video package starring Classy Freddie Blassie. Freddie is shown watching TV in his wheelchair, watching all the great classic NWA champions win the gold. The video goes on to show greats like Hogan, Savage, and Micheals with the titles, as well as WCW footage of Nash, Sting, Flair, and Sid winning the WCW world title. Nice vid to set up the PPV.

To start things off, Vince comes out in a pretty shitty mood, primarily because he had to kiss Rikishi's ass this past Thursday. The fans really give it to Vince about the ass kissing. Vince basically says that no man is big enough to make him kiss anyone's ass, and "The Rock took advantage of me!" *Insert homo joke* Vince then says "He who laughs last will laugh loudest," which has some importance later. Flair comes out and cuts him off and says enough of this talk, lets start the show.
Match one: Albert and Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Test and Christian
Albert and Scotty come right out with Vince still in the ring. They get a decent pop and dance around McMahon. Lawler's suggestions for team names of the Albert and Scotty team: MC Cracker, Pasty boys, and Run BMW. Test and Christian come out to little reaction. Strange pairing. Nothing too spectacular here, but nothing overly bad. Decent showing from all 4 guys. Nice finish, Christian attempts the Unprettier on Scotty, but Albert grabs him halfway and hits the Baldo Bomb for the win.

Up next Regal is interviewed by The Coach (ugh). Regal is funny as normal, saying that Edge's biggest mistake is "inquiring his wrath" and calls The Coach a "silly pillick." Exactly my thoughts.
Match Two: Intercontinental title: Edge (c) vs. William Regal
I hate how the IC title is defended so low on the card. It's the fuckin' number 2 title for god's sake! The Hardcore title is higher on the card! Anyway, onto the match. The match starts with some strong grappling. Regal is getting big time heat. He is really over nowadays. This match had some pretty solid psychology, only problem was Regal's speed fucked up the pace of the match. Edge and Regal's styles didn't mesh too well at some points of the match. JR bitches that Regal uses "brass knucks" to win. Edge takes a nice bump in the latter of the match, he attempts to spear Regal from the top rope to the outside, but Regal moves out of the way and Edge hits the steps head first. Edge looks pretty limp, and as JR predicted (there's somethin' you don't see every day), Regal got his "brass knucks" out of the corner. He shoves em down his trunks for later. He puts them on a little while later, but when he turns around, he gets hit with a spear for the 1-2-3. Edge retains, and continues his push.

Next Flair is on the phone and Angle interrupts him. Kurt says Flair is the best of all time, but he will never have two things, a gold medal or an undisputed championship.

After that, Lita is shown preparing for her match. Like Lawler said, she has the striped referee thong. Matt attempts to talk to her in his incoherent gibberish of a language. What I *think* Matt said is that they've been through some tough times, and he apologizes. He is basically trying to get Lita to call the match in his favor, but Lita says she'll call it right down the middle.
Match Three: Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy
The Hardys start off with a technical exchange (well as technical as the Hardys get) and then the match slows down a great bit. This match was very mediocre. Constant tension between Matt and Lita throughout the match. The one nice spot of their match (which is all the Hardys matches are worth really) is when Matt attempted to sunset flip Jeff over the top rope, but Jeff reversed it into a Hurricanrana. The match finishes with Jeff hitting the Swanton, and Lita counting the three, but misses that Matt had his foot on the rope. Matt is pissed and leaves without Lita. Finally, a breakup!

Taker, "My Yard" is this month's fanatic PPV.

Trish then is seen at the Rock's dressing room. She congratulates the Rock on what he did to Vince. Trish wishes him good luck and gives him a little peck. Rock pulls her back in the room, and says that he's only concentrating on the match, but after that, there will be "plenty of time for her to smell what The Rock is cookin"
Match Four: Tag Team titles: The Dudley Boyz vs. Kane and Big Show
I cannot stand the Dudleys anymore. They are shadows of their former ECW selves, with a dumbed down WWF super stale gimmick. Kane and Big Show is an odd pairing, and a crappy one at that. This match is exactly what everyone expected, a boring typical power tag match. Halfway through, Show pulls Stacy's pants down revealing a red thong (YAY!) and puts her over his knee and spanks her. Kane accidentally nails Show with a clothesline, and then Show accidentally nails Kane with an elbow. Looks like this team is done. Who's gonna be Show's partner next week? (Take that as a question or a statement) Dudleys hit the 3D for the win.

Taker ass kissing heel turn promo/Taker/RVD promo.
Hardcore Title: RVD (c) vs The Undertaker
This match really impressed me honestly. I expected RVD to tone things down, and for Taker to sell minimally, but neither happened. JR: "A lot of fans have lost respect for the Undertaker recently." Maybe he isn't as out of it as we all think. Anyway the match starts with RVD hitting his usual kicks, and Taker sells them pretty well. Some nice spots, RVD hits Taker with a springboard moonsault in the crowd, and tonight's HOLY SHIT moment: RVD jumps off the row above the exit and hits Taker with a cross body. RVD really isn't letting up, and Taker seems to have a newfound respect for Van Dam. RVD even does the Van Daminator on a seated Taker on the stage! No blood thank god. Taker kicks out. Taker hits the Last Ride off the stage, through TWO tables onto the concrete for the win. Taker won, which is a big minus, but this was a really solid hardcore match with no cartoony shit. Taker really impressed me tonight.

Jericho/Flair promo. Y2J seems paranoid, "no one has confidence in him."
Jericho proposes that tomorrow "WHEN" he wins the Unified title, Flair will present it to him in the ring tomorrow. Flair says he'll be crowning whoever the winner is tomorrow.
Triple H Desire promo
This is another good video, with clips of HHH in the ring, in physical therapy, the hospital, and the injury itself. Strange music choice in "Beautiful Day" by U2.
Match 6: Women's title: Trish Stratus vs Jacky
Typical women's match. If they are trying to do something with the women's title, why don't they build the title around Molly Holly or even Lita for god's sakes? Typical women's match. Trish wins with a really sloppy backslide.

McMahon ass kissing promo. JR spanking himself and Michael Cole questioning if JR is wearing a thong makes me sick. The thought of seeing JR's ass makes me vomit faster then if I drank a quart of Turpentine. Rikishi is back, but this poses one question, "Who really gives a shit?"
WWF New York
Rikishi is there, said he's ready to "Back Dat ass up again." Once again, who cares? They fire talented guys like Kid Romeo, Elix Skipper, and Essa Rios, but yet they keep Rikishi, Billy Gunn, and The Undertaker around. It really pisses me off.
Undisputed Champion Promo
Match 7: WWF title: Steve Austin (c) vs Kurt Angle
The crowd is REALLY into this match. Huge "Whut?" chant. Long stare down. Angle gets crazy heat. This match had some nice technical exchanges, and constantly changed from Austin's brawling style to Angle's technical style. Their styles REALLY accent each other well. Awesome psychology and pacing throughout. Nice spot : Angle gets Austin in a figure four wrapped around the turnbuckle. Angle really has the advantage and is going after Austin's leg as this point. Angle hits 3 German suplexes, but Austin gets up and nails Angle with 5! Out of nowhere, ANGLE SLAM! Austin kicks out! Angle tries for a stunner, but Austin whips him and catches him with a Stunner on the way back. Austin wins! This match was fought tooth and nail, and was a great match. Not as good as their previous matches, but still great. Austin goes down as the last WWF champion, and rightfully so.

Promo:
Trish is shown getting dressed, in a towel, and Test barges in. He says he'll make her lucky and kiss her. He's all arrogant and crap. "Once you've had Test, you'll forget about the rest." Yeah, tell that to Stephanie McMahon. Test really sucks as a heel. Trish gets pissed and kicks him out.
Match 8: World Title: The Rock (c) vs Chris Jericho
What is the deal with the red highlights in Jericho's hair? It looks like crap. The crowd is hot for this match again. The match is fast paced early on. Nice grappling at the start. Later on, Jericho takes it outside, and sets up the announce table. Jericho attempts a Rock bottom through it, but Rocky reverses it into a DDT. Rock goes for a Rock bottom in the ring a bit later, reversed into a Front Russian Legsweep by Jericho. Jericho goes for the people's elbow, but Rock turns it into a sharpshooter, but Jericho counters into a sharpshooter of his own. Nice chain right there. Jericho almost has The Rock out, but he reaches the rope, and Rock hits the Rock Bottom out of no where, but his legs are in too much pain to take advantage. Vince distracts the ref. Rock hits him, and catches Jericho and hits him with a spinebuster. He goes for the elbow, but Vince is on the apron. He pulls Vince in the ring and beats him. Jericho hits The Rock bottom for the win! ULTIMATE SWERVE!
***1/2
Match 8: Unified title: Stone Cold Steve Austin (WWF champion) vs. Chris Jericho (World Champion)
Austin comes RIGHT down after the World title match ends. No down time for Jericho. Angle runs in and nails Austin with a chair and Rock hits the Rock Bottom on Jericho. Both guys almost get counted out, but Jericho gets up, and the match is underway. This match was slower paced obviously, as they are tired from their previous matches. Austin removes the mat outside of the ring. Jericho clotheslines him onto it, and Austin's head hits the concrete with a sickening thud. This is a slower paced brawl. Jericho gets suplexed onto the concrete. The ref gets bumped, and Jericho hits the stunner. Vince brings "Crooked ref" Nick Patrick down to the ring to make the count, but Flair comes out to stop it. Vince hands the 16 time world champion his ass. WHAT an ego stroke. Jericho then goes for a missile dropkick, which Austin reverses into a Walls of Jericho. Nice. Jericho is tapping, but there is no ref to see it. Booker T runs in and nails Austin with the title! Hebner is up! 1-2-3!!!!!!!!!!!! JERICHO WINS!!!! Jericho gets a celebration, fire works go off, confetti falls, and McMahon and Jericho celebrate on the way out, while McMahon laughs on the way out. "He who laughs last, laughs loudest."
***
I wanted Jericho to win the title, but didn't expect it to happen. Congrats Chris!! Austin might have deserved to win the Unified title over Jericho, but the win was still bittersweet.
Final Thought: A solid PPV with a decent undercard and a hot end. Worth the 30 bucks.
