Christie Littleton: Still Needs Help
Comedy Fund Raiser for Christie Littleton
Come one, Come all. If you were wondering how you could help Christie with her legal and other financial needs, then there is no time like now. Bad Dog Comedy Theater in Austin, Texas is featuring a Comedy Fund Raiser for Christie on October 22, 2000 featuring Jamie Ward of Houston. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The cost of entering into a night of comedy and goodwill is only $20. Can't afford to stay the night? Then feel free to go to bed early Saturday night and take a nap Sunday afternoon. That way you will be well rested to travel over there and back Sunday. Can't afford the gas to go to Austin? Then gather a group of people together and car pool and split the costs. They need a big showing and even then it will only make a small dent in what it has cost Christie financially and it will not even put a small dent in the emotional cost she has suffered because of the injustice of the Texas Court system.
Christie Littleton Case:
Christie Littleton, had her sex correction performed with the help of Texas, she had her sex designation legally changed in Texas, she was legally considered for years to be a female by the Texas courts, she was legally married in Kentucky and happily married for many years, she had a business whereby she was able to support herself, she lost her husband just recently to death, and she tried to bring justice to her husband's death by filing a malpractice suite against those in charge of his care. In the process of going to court in the malpractice suit, her biological birth sex came into play and thus a questioning of her Kentucky LEGAL marriage with her husband came into question by the Texas courts. The tables were soon turned on Christie to make this more of a biological and same-sex-marriage issue more than a malpractice suit, just so the insurance company would not have to pay out the money. As a result of the Texas Courts of Unjustice ruling, Christie's Texas LEGAL sex status as a female of many years was overturned and her LEGAL Kentucky marriage was dissolved, declaring it was a same-sex-marriage.
Christie did not expect any of this. She did not expect...
Her husband to die,
To have the Texas Courts unjustly declare her LEGAL sex of female reversed
To have her LEGAL Kentucky marriage of many years dissolved by the state of Texas into an illegal one, and
To experience the financial set back she has suffered
...while trying to attain justice for her husband's death through a malpractice lawsuit. So, can it happen to you...could your transitioning be interrupted by the courts or could all the legal things you have acquired to be legally declared a male or female be reversed by the courts through a supposedly unrelated situation in your life? You bet it could. It happened to Christie and it could happen to you. So, don't relax yet. Christie and the legal team that assisted her still needs your help financially. The info on how to help is below. Since it can happen to any of us at any time through any seemingly unrelated gender/sex issue situation in our life, we need to become more active in Transgender community support and in educating the various segments of society on transgender issues, and in becoming more active politically in regards to transgender issues. Unless we step out of our larger "closets of reclusivity" we will have no excuse to gripe and complain about the injustices that are committed against us as a group of Transgender American citizens.
Well, now it seems that it is over for Christie as far as the courts are concerned. However, it is not over for Christie as far as her life is concerned. The Supreme Court of the United States has decided not to hear the case. Though the case itself has ended, the financial and emotional turmoil continue for Christie. The lawyers that assisted her are also dealing with financial situations as well. If you have ever been through a court battle for any period of time, you know that it costs a lot of money to continue the case. Though the volunteer lawyers involved in this case gave much of their time and money, the costs were still there. However, there were other costs involved with this case. Because of the unjust ruling of the Texas courts, Christie has lost her means of supporting herself at this time and is having a very hard time paying her bills, including the medical bills from those who, in her view, killed her husband. Therefore, she needs help. Again, here is a way for you to become involved in helping the Transgender Community.
If you think that Mrs. Littleton got screwed royally by the court system, and you want to help her pay her bills, then send her a donation ($100 would be nice, more if you can afford it, but if you cannot afford much, send her a $2, $5 or $20 bill in a nice card for several months as you can afford) at 1823 West Hildebrand, San Antonio, TX 78201.
If you would like to show your appreciation for the volunteer work of the lawyers involved in the Littleton case for the past six months, please show them your appreciation by helping them out financially. They also have bills to pay, mouths to feed and clothes, medicine and gasoline to purchase. Yes, $100 each would be nice, more if you can afford it, but if you cannot afford much, send us each a $2, $5 or $20 bill in a nice card for several months as you can afford. If you want a tax deduction, call it legal advice or send it through the Transgender Fund at www.tgfund.com. Otherwise, feel free to contact Phyllis Frye and Alyson Dodi Meiselman at prfrye@aol.com and famlaw@his.com to find out exactly where to send the donations.
Remember, they are fighting for our freedoms and there is always both financial personal costs when doing so. Let's show our appreciation by donating as much as we can directly to Christie, and or the lawyers involved, and or the Transgender Fund.
