3rd Bathurst Venturers

At Ourimbah there were over 200 teams, about 45 bases and 4 VOC's(Venturer Overnight Camps). At the end of the 4 days "Given To Fly" came 6th.They were the only Golden West Region team in the top 20.

Proclaimation Day'98.

On Sunday May 3rd, Gary Jonassen AVL, Michael Ireland & Brandon Vidler attended Bathurst's Proclaimation Day at Bicentennial Park on the banks of the Macquarie River. Our task was to set up our flag pole and raise and break the Union Jack during the re-enactment of the proclomation of Bathurst as it was recorded 183 years ago.The main speech was given by Councillor Ian Macintosh Mayor of Bathurst and the Blessing was given by the Rev Samuel Marsden.After the ceremony we headed to the Old Government Cottage for a 'Tot of Rum', which we refused, yet we did take up the offer for scones and cream. .

Hill End Camp July '98.

Two leaders " Gej " and Eric along with 6 Venturers : Michael I, Gary, Todd, Paul, Grant & Steve went to Hill End for the Weekend. The weather was cold, the days were short. On the Saturday we went exploring and found and explored old goldmines, we intened to go back and abseil the vertical shafts to see what is at the bottom.That night we sat around the fire and told jokes all night.

Next day Todd, Paul, Michael & Gary went off on a one day hike arriving back around 4pm. The rest of us went off to further explore the goldmines. We left Hill End around 4:30pm and headed back alond the Bridle Track to Bathurst, home around 5:30pm. The weekend was relaxing and well worth the cold.
