Welcome to the New York State Trappers' Association,Inc. web site.

The New York State Trapper's Association is a 50+ years old organization dedicated to the preservation of furbearers and trapping in New York State. Formed by a group of Adirondack trappers, with such notable names as O.L. Butcher and E. J. Dailey to discuss furbearer conservation practices and seasons with the New York State Fish & Game Department (N.Y.S. Environmental Conservation Department).  The Association met annually for years each fall at Piseco Lake, New York in the southern Adirondack Mountains. During the 1960's a Spring meeting of group was held at various different locations around upstate New York to widen the membership. Then in the 70's with membership numbers at the annual meeting growing to beyond the capacity of Piseco Lake and surrounding area facilities.  The Association moved it's Annual Meeting on Labor Day weekend to various points around New York State; but in recent years have center at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds in Frankfort, NY.

Today the association's dedication to furbearer management has thrust it into many fronts not envisioned by the founding mountain men.  Proper furbearer management thru conservation utilization and political monitoring on the state and national level are at the top of our activities.   This is a group run by trappers from all over New York State for the betterment of trapping and teaching trapping to the youth of our state.
