This page is about Multiple Sclerosis. A disease that I have had for about 9 years now. Most of the information that I have here came from the internet and personal experience. When I first was diagnosed with M.S., I couldn't figure out what my problem was. I was working for a department store at the time, and I was having such migranes that it made it difficult to even think. I also had a hard time walking without staggering all over the place. Then, the worst of it happened. I started to have anxiety and panic attacks. That was it for me, I decided to go and see just what my problem was. When all the tests were done and it was confirmed that I indeed did have M.S., I at least knew what was going on and the attacks stopped almost immediately. I have been living in remission for almost 7 years now and I THANK GOD for every good day that I have
M.S. affects 250,000 to 350,000 Americans~~2/3 of which are women. It is not a contagious disease. It is also not hereditary or curable. Maybe I can explain it a little for you. Think of your spinal cord that reaches all the way to your brain as a highway. The center line is made up of long nerve fibers covered with a white substance called myelin. These long nerve fibers carry messages to the brain. When the myelin becomes damaged, it is like a pot hole in the road. Therefore the messages have trouble reaching your brain. The most common symptoms for M.S. are: 1. cognitive problems: a. memory b. attention span c. ability to understand and reason 2. extreme or cronic fatigue 3. muscle weakness 4. coordination or balance problems The kind of M.S. that I have is relapsing~remitting. That is where the symptoms come and go or remain stable. The other kind is chronic progressive. That is where your symptoms continually get worse without remission. I hope I have given you a little insight into the disease Multiple Sclerosis. Following are afew links to sites that might be helpful. |
