MuchMusic has announced that they're canceling the 12th annual MuchMusic Video
Awards which were scheduled to take place Sept. 23.
The awards, which celebrate the best in Canadian and international music video
have been cancelled due to the terrorist activities which took place in the U.S.
"It is a time of uncertainty, a time to mourn, and to collect our thoughts
and prayers. Out of respect for the victims and their families, MuchMusic has
chosen to cancel this, the 12th edition of the annual event - and return in
September 2002," said David Kines, vice-president of MuchMusic.
The awards were scheduled to include internationally recognized performers like
Shaggy, Incubus, Staind and Coldplay as well as high-profile Canucks like Sum
41, Nelly Furtado and Our Lady Peace. Things like sensitivity issues and the
logistics involved in transporting artists in lieu of restricted air travel were
factors in the decision.
