Nile Rodgers to re-record We
Are Family
From Radio Undercover Music News 9/21/01
Nile Rodgers of Chic fame and writer of the Sister Sledge hit "We Are
Family" is to remake his classic dance hit. Rodgers says "I am putting
together a cross section of personalities to re-record my song, "We Are
Family." He goes on to say that the song was had personal meaning to Nelson
Mandela. "Mr. Nelson Mandela said one of the strongest rays of hope is the
song "We Are Family."
He told Bernard Edwards (my co-writer) and me it was constantly playing on the
radios of his prison guards. The vision of white guards singing songs by black
women on mainstream airwaves reassured him that South Africa would not be
segregated forever" commented Niles.
"Nothing lifts the spirit like song. Politicians and tacticians have known
this since the beginning of time. In my own humble way I am giving the greatest
gift I have the gift of music. The proceeds of the new recording will go to
various charities to benefit those who need our help".
Confirmed to perform on the new song already ... Steven Tyler from Aerosmith,
Britney Spears, Busta Rhymes, NSYNC and Sister Sledge. Actors Macaulay Culkin
and Kevin Bacon will also be on the recording.
The song will be recorded over two sessions this Saturday and Sunday.
