Ghost Hunting

A Ghost or something else????
I did warn you but click below anyway
There are many theories on Ghosts and associated Phenomena and that is all they are at the present time, so all we can offer is a guide to Ghosts and how we as a Society investigate them.
The first rule of Ghost Hunting, is never to be alone, this is not only for moral support but helps validate any phenomena you may experience. You don't always need the latest high tech equipment either, just some of the following helps:
Notebook ( to keep a log off events)
Torch ( keep a good supply of spare batteries for these and other equipment)
Camera ( any will do, we use a mixture of digital and SLR's)
Tape recorder ( for EVP recordings etc, use a new tape to prevent old sounds bleeding into the recordings, we have used Mini Disc players as they cannot get this side effect)
Camcorders ( Sony ones with Night Shot are excellent)
Thermometers ( digital are best, we use remote sensing plus infra red ones for instant read outs)
EMF meters ( can be expensive but show up variations in local magnetic fields) - a compass can do.
Movement sensors
Sound amplifiers ( help you to pick up low frequency sounds)
Surveillance camera's ( we use cheap black and white ones with a basic infra red illuminator - these run to a monior/video recorder)
Walkie Talkies
We usually set up a center of Operations, this consists of all the monitors and a laptop to record what's going on in the area's under investigation. We take it in turns to man this area, the rest of us either sit in pairs with one team roaming inside or outside, everyone reports in every fifteen minutes to report all clear. If the Ops center sees anything the roaming team are sent to investigate.
Never expect to see or hear anything and you won't be disappointed, take plenty of coffee and snacks, don't smoke near to camera's or even in the same room as equipment as this can give the impression of a ghostly image??
A Recording
Most Ghosts appear to be recordings placed in time, almost as if the area or building concerned acts like a 3D video recorder, if you are in the right place at the right time you will witness this phenomena, the ghost always performs the same act and is not aware that you are there. They also sometimes weaken each time they are played back, such as battles etc - after the Battle of Culloden in Scotland the battle was replayed as the real thing but with time it has become nothing more than the occasional sound of battle these may eventually weaken just to leave a sense of unrest ( how many of us have experienced that feeling before)
These are more prevalent near water courses and damp weather, as if this aids the "Play back" effect.
Destructive Haunting (Poltergeists)
Poltergeists seem to happen during an emotional period in a house hold and center around females reaching puberty, it is almost like a spirit is drawn to the energy of the young individual and uses it to manifest itself. They start of as strange animal like scratching noises and can go on the full blown voices and moving of heavy objects. They can be very frightening, but that is what they want as they feed of your fear, but it is very rare for anyone to get hurt. Even when an object is thrown at you the object loses momentum at the last second and causes no harm.
Poltergeists usually respond badly to exorcism and do not like to be seen directly, they follow no hard and fast rules and tend to leave as quickly as they arrive.
Real Ghosts.
These are the most illusive, they appear to be sentient and respond to human intervention. They can communicate with you and interact with you. They sometimes seem as interested in us as we are in them and if they died suddenly may not understand they are a Ghost at all and think you are the intruder. They usually manifest after some structural alteration which can be something as benign as decorating a room or hanging or moving of pictures???
These are the real red letter day events for a Ghost Hunter and are the ones to get evidence on if possible.
Photographing Ghosts.
We have usedRico i500 with a 3.3 million resolution as well as other smaller digital camera's digital camera's in our investigations due to the instant image we can see, but I admit film is best as the negative can help prove no tampering has taken place, after all everyone wants to believe but tries not to?
Infra Red film is good but needs to be loaded in darkness and costs to be developed, so try a fast cheap colour film instead maybe with a red filter over your flash gun.
The most common picture is that of the "Orb", these can be grains of dust floating in the line of film . The second form is that of a smoky see through type figure and the last is a definable and sometimes solid looking apparition.
EVP - Electronic Voice Phenomena.
As mentioned we have used Mini Discs recorders and solid state recorders to eliminate old sounds coming through, just leave any type of recording equipment in a room or best of all a cemetery and make sure no passers by are recorded or if they are make a note of what they say and the time it happens. Leave it to record or ask questions and leave gaps for the spirit to answer. When it is enhanced and played back you can get short duration's of voice or in the case of Chingle Hall a strange scream was recorded.
Or even a draw bridge going up that no longer exists?
I understand that all electronic devices can act as radio receivers but it is still a very interesting aspect of investigation.
We have tried many different devices on Ghost Hunts, we even built a remote vehicle to send into dark and damp cellars, just to relieve the monotony.
Here are a couple of cases that we have gone on, more will follow as the current group conducts investigations on a separate page.
Corner Pin Pub, Longton.
This is where POPI used to hold its meetings infact our meeting room was once a make shift morgue used during a local mining disaster. An ex land lord hung himself in the pub.

The Team

He hung himself on the stair case.

Playing the waiting game.
Strange voices were heard in the bar and a movement sensor kept going off even though it was empty, as if the spirits were having an after hours get together.
Things kept getting moved in the cellar and this is the entrance to an alleged tunnel that has been bricked up, why???
The Red Cow, Nantwich.
This is an excellent public house and we went along for an excellent meal before we set up the equipment when the regulars had left, it is very friendly and well worth a visit.
It seems to have the Ghost of a little girl who kept pulling the wires out of our equipment for a laugh and also a gentleman in military garb has been seen near to the fire, their has also been a suicide. We took a reporter from the Crewe and Alsager Chronicle, he was very impressed and even heard a voice using an amplifier that said "Help me"
The heating was on but we had moving cold spots that dropped by over ten degrees Centigrade from their immediate surroundings.

The Red Cow

A Ghost has been sitting here.

The Team.
The kitchen kept having things moved that turned up days later

Looking for Cold Spots.
You can just about see the spheres above the pool table?????????????
Just some more dust?????????????
It was an eventful night and we got excellent results and maybe one day we can return????
