Over 90% of reports after analysis and later investigation turn out to be Identified Flying Objects (IFO), such as man made objects that are seen at a distance or in poor light, flocks of birds high up catching the suns rays at an angle or even more common,natural objects seen such as the Moon or Venus. I once had a telephone call from a lady that seemed to be the worst for wear on a Saturday night who reported to me from her mobile phone she was watching an Object in the sky, she hung up abruptly and then phoned back to say that someone had pointed out that it was the moon????</B></div> <div> <B>It is important when you see a UFO,not to get carried away, as most of us are indoctrinated by Sci-fi to jump to conclusions. I have known individuals to report every high flying plane at night to be an Alien Craft!!!!</B></div> <div> <B>Most people think that Kenneth Arnold started the craze with UFO's back in June 1947, yet mysterious objects have been reported through history. The first major flap of the last Century started in the Scandinavian Countries in the 1930's with reports of large Aircraft flying during intense blizzards, sometimes with no engine noise. These resembled contemporary aircraft but were far larger and with more engines than were available at the time. No explanation to their origin was given and after the second world war these reports changed to sightings of strange missiles performing Ariel displays in the sky, with some of them landing and taking off again ( no V type rockets of the day could do that).</B></div> <div> <B>We know that current designs on the drawing boards for Aircraft and Space Craft are ten to fifteen years ahead of what we have at present so it is a distinct possibility that many current reports of UFO activity are nothing more than exotic craft that are man made but highly classified. Who knows what people may have invented, even Anti Gravity may have been created which would explain the large triangular crafts ability of hovering with no engine noise??</B></div> <div> <B>On one last note it is interesting to point out that Kenneth Arnold never said he had seen flying saucers, just that they flew "like saucers being skipped over a pond", but that he actually reported crescent shaped craft similar to the later Northrop Flying Wings????</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>What ever the real origin of the 10% of UFO's that are unexplainable, there are so many reputable eye witness accounts that the possibility of extraterrestrial origin remains and these are the ones we would like to prove. What ever you see on a sky watch is interesting and they are ideal opportunities for large numbers of people to get together and learn about the night sky and forge friendships.</B></div> <bR> <div> <IMG SRC="0bc51fd0.jpg" border=0 width="337" height="253" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> Its very dark and cold on Sky Watches, the postman must have been very early or very late.</div> <bR> <bR> <div> <B>UFO activity within Staffordshire??</B></div> <bR> <div> Stoke on Trent has had more than its fair share of UFO activity over the years and can lay claim to perhaps the biggest reputable sighting back in the 60's in Bentilee. We have many records on file  and want to undertake more Sky Watches in the future, but of course we will have to wait until the terrible Foot & Mouth disease abates as it has cut most rural area's off concerning investigations.</div> <bR> <div> We always alert the local police when going on a Sky Watch incase they get to may reports of nutters standing on hills in the dark???. </div> <div> Always dress up warm, even in August it gets cold when you are standing high up and exposed to the elements.</div> <div> We take binoculars, Telescope,camcorders and SLRs with high speed film asa 1000 or more.</div> <bR> <div> I personally like the Roaches in the Staffordshire Moorlands due to its location and view, we tend to split into two parties each looking in two different directions and communicate by radio.</div> <bR> <div> We have Watchers within the group that live in prominent positions and assist in identifying reported activity, we also want to set up a UFO warning system - where a member spots an alleged UFO and notes its direction then contacts someone in that direction and warns them. If this was set up country wide we could then warn other groups and log flight paths, variations etc ( if you can help mail me).</div> </BODY>
