John Daggett 1698
John Daggett and Hopestill Wood
John Daggett, son of Nathaniel and Rebecca Millard Daggett of Rehoboth, MA, was born on March 6, 1698.
He lived upon the lands of his ancestors which were located on the cove. His father was a farmer, weaver and trader,and it is likely young John worked alongside his father in these activities. During his life, he added many more acres to his homestead.
John married Hopestill Wood of Swansea on June 15, 1721. He was twenty three and Hope was twenty two when they married.
Eight children were born to them between 1722 and 1735, four boys and four girls.
John died at the early age of thirty eight on July 14, 1738, leaving Hope with eight children, the youngest only three.
The inventory of his estate was valued at £1401 10s 11d. He left a large inheritance to his family. His wife was named administratrix on September 19, 1738. According to Bristol county Probate Records, the estate was divided on March 18, 1744 between his widow Hopestill, now the wife of Joseph Brown, and the children of Hope and her late husband, John.
