This Letter is to introduce Hair Quarters Beauty Salon and friends. Barbara Riggin, along with
otjer volunteers, will be conducting the First Annual "$mile for CF" Campaign on Setpember 30,
2000. Their goal is to have dollar bills lined end to end to cover one mile. All proceeds raised from
this event will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

We are asking you and your associates to become involved by contributing valuable dollars. It
will be your invaluable support that allows the Foundation to help continue funding
research,education and patient care, which will lead to finding a cure for CF.
|
|
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic diease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United
States today. CF causes the body to produce an abnormally thick, sticky mucus, which clogs the
airways and leads to life- threatening lung infections. the thick CF mucus also obstructs the
pancreas, preventing enzymes from reaching the intestines to break down and digest food.

The amount and pace of research being supported by the Cystic Foundation continues to
accelerate. There are currently more then 20 CF drugs in development, there are eight novel
treatment being evaluated, and clinical trials are underway with others soon to follow.We are
working on other drugs designed to combat infections that have become resistant to current
antibiotics. In 1955, children with CF typially died before reaching elementary school. Now the
median age of survival for a person with CF is more than 32 years. This reflects the quality of care
offered at the CF care centers and the fast pace of drug develoment. All of this was made possible
by contributions from people like you who, year after year, support our fund raising for research
aimed at finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. We truly have come excitingly far in our quest for a cur,
but sadly we are still all too frequently losing some of our precious young people. Please continue
your support until we achieve vivtory over cystic fibrosis.
