Norris Blackburn, Jr. was the father of Chip Blackburn, Off To SEA the Woodro, a member and Staff member of the Parrot Head Webring. He passed away on June 29th, 1997, from cancer. We were saddened. Not that we all knew Mr. Blackburn, but that we love Chip very much and felt a loss along with him and his family.

Mr. Blackburn lived in Morristown, Tennessee where the Panther Creek State Park's wildlife obsertatory tower was named him ( The Norris C. Blackburn, Jr. Wildlife Observatory). While Mr. Blackburn was even partly healthy, he never missed a day to go to the park at 5:00pm - promptly - to feed the deer and wild turkey.

Mr. Blackburn is also known for his support of The National Foundation to Protect America's Eagles. Mr. Blackburn has named an eaglett released in August of 1997. He was hatched by bald eagles Liberty & Justice. The bird was released at Norris lake, Dandridge, TN. Mr. Blackburn named the bird "Admiral". The bird was released in his honor.

Mr. Blackburn also was involved with the care of another famous eagle "Challenger". The bird flew during the opening ceremonies at this past opening baseball season in Atlanta.

An e-mail excerpt from Al Cecere (founder of the eagle foundation) sent to Chip & Raubyn Blackburn (June 1997):
  • "Challenger is doing great. He has been invited to fly into a number of sports stadiums this year for National Anthem presentations. He has been invited by the Philadelphia Eagles (vs. Green Bay Packers), by the Washington Redskins (vs. Phoenix Cardinals), by the Kansas City Chiefs (vs. Denver Broncos). He may even be invited to fly at the 1997 Major Leaque Baseball All-Star Game in Cleveland on July 8, although that has not been confirmed absolutely yet. We are off to Minneapolis this Thursday morning to have Challenger appear at big Bass Tournament Weigh-In at the Mall of America."
