Morihito Saito Sensei
Chief Instructor of the Iwama
Dojo and Keeper of the Aiki Shrine
This is the one non Ki Society Sensei I have chosen
to include. Saito Sensei is sometimes referred to as "The Pope of
Aikido." Saito Sensei had been O'Sensei's longest Uchi Deshi.
Saito Sensei rarely left the side of his teacher for 23 years. He
is now the Chief Instructor at O'Sensei's personal dojo and the keeper
of the Aiki Shrine. I was privileged to have studied with Saito Sensei
at Dojo Nippon Kan in Denver for his 50th anniversary of Aikido practice.
More than anything, his incredible instruction and Aikido demonstrated
to me that most of the boundaries between the styles of Aikido are mere
perception and politics and not substantial differences in philosophy or
technique.
As Saito Sensei is getting older and it is not
known if he will travel to the States many more times.
