About the Sensei (Teacher)
Matthew Spriggs
I am the instructor of Yuma Ki-Aikido and the authorof this web page. I grew up in Colorado and spent most ofmy adult life there until October 5, 1998 although I love to travel and have been many places. I have dabbled in a number of martial arts including Judo, Kung Fu (San Soo), Shotokan Karate, and Kendo.I achieved some ranking in each of these disciplines but none had captured my heart so completely like Ki-Aikido. I first discovered Ki-Aikido while studying Shotokan and Kendo simultaneously at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I left it, thinking that 3 arts was WAY too much to deal with. However the memory of Ki-Aikido stuck with me for several more years till I returned to it in February 1994. I have never strayed since, realizing that it is really a way of life for me. During my study I have been an Uchi Deshi (innerdisciple) to my instructor Russell Jones Sensei, studied extensively under KoichiKashiwaya Sensei and I have had the pleasure of briefly training with Iwaru Tamura Sensei ,Yoshigasaki Sensei , MorihitoSaito Sensei , Shinichi Suzuki Sensei, Chris Curtis Sensei , Lael Keen Sensei , Kevin Eva Sensei , Kirk Fowler Sensei and many other lower ranking and lesser known, but still wonderful, Senseis of Ki Society and the Aikikai.

I hold the rank of Yondan (4th degree black belt) in Ki-Aikido and Chuden in Ki development (second advanced level of understanding)and I am an Associate Lecturer and Examiner of Ki Society International (teaching license). In other words I have a long way to go, but I also feel that I have a lot to offer.I dedicate a lot of my time to learning and imparting Ki and Ki-Aikido to others and this brings me great joy.
