Extraordinary(E) : Men armed with weapons specialized against heavily armoured mounted troops, such as the exceptionally heavy clubs wielded with both hands. Examples being the Low Countries plançon, and Swiss halberds. These are treated as (F) blades, except that they destroy lancers who score less in close combat in the blades bound.
Extraordinary(E) : Lightly armed warriors preferring the skirmish in difficult terrain but equipped with long spears for dealing effectively with cavalry charges, but vulnerable to missile fire. Examples being German free canton spearmen, and French Brigans They are considered Wb(S) if in close combat to their front with Lancers, Sipahi, Warband, and as Wb(I) in all other circumstances.
Extraordinary(E) : Foot trained to fight in a formation having a front rank or ranks of with pike or spear and a large shield or pavaise, but with the majority of ranks armed with bow or crossbow and tactically emphasizing shooting versus close combat, such as Italian pavaise and crossbow or Burgundian Pike and Longbow units. Mounted on double base elements with front rank 1/2 spear or pike figure the rest and the back rank bow (O) or (S). Bw(E) is treated as Pike for movement and when a front rank element is in close combat except vs a Lancer element. In all other circumstances they are treated as bowmen of the same type as its rear rank. Bw(E) cannot shoot from a rear rank, nor provide rear support in close combat.
If designated as spearmen in their lists troop description they are are treated various grades of Pike but the front rank element gets rear support only from the first element behind it, 2nd and 3rd elements of spearmen have support effects on enemy in close combat.. i.e. Italian militia spearmen - Pk(I), get rear support from the second rank pike (I) element only.
Include these changes on DBR Pg. 9 after Para. 1.
"Those lancers, pistols, sipahi or light horse specified in the army lists as able to do so can dismount to fight on foot, replaced by duplicate foot figures. Others can do so only to defend fortifications, or within 300p of enemy fortifications or war wagons. All must dismount to defend fortifications. Camelry are already assumed to fight dismounted where appropriate, using camelry factors and outcomes, so can only be replaced by foot figures to defend fortifications ( and must be) , or within 300p of enemy fortifications or war wagons. Elephants cannot dismount for any reason or defend fortifications. It is unnecessary to formally dismount troops fighting to capture ships, or loot baggage, even if this is fortified since we assume that individuals get of to loot or make a passage while others fight mounted. Unless specified otherwise by the army lists, mounted troops dismount as follows:
If armed with bow, crossbow or firearms:
Otherwise:
Dismounters exchange 1 element of pistols, sipahi or camelry and 2 of lancers, or light horse for one foot element. Except at deployment time, or to mount to pursue routers or to flee, mounting or dismounting requires a full single element tactical or march move for each dismounted element. If it is to remount an appropriate element with riderless mounts and holders must be provided for an accompany each dismounted element adjacent to its rear, or that of of any element providing rear support or overhead shooting or its mounts.
If so specified in their army list, foot can be given additional bases with riderless mounts and their holders as above and classed as Mounted infantry. Unless these have lost or left their mounts, they march , flee or rout as dragoons [ Dr (O) ] but otherwise move as their type of foot. They count as dragoons if mounted, or if in the bound they dismount or remount otherwise as their type of foot, for shooting ( they may not shoot if counted as dragoons ), shot at or in close combat, . Flee and Rout outcome moves cause them to remount without PIPs unless their mounts are lost.
The riderless mounts of any troops do not count for any element count. They are immediately removed from the table if in even a corner contact with enemy, or if shot at, or if their owners are destroyed., make a tactical move except to remount, a march move except by mounted infantry, or any outcome move on foot, or pass through or are passed through by any but skirmishers; if so they cannot be remounted.
2a) Include on DBR page 16 para 7 in place of old text:
1 PIP is expended to:
An ally general whose first PIP score is 1 is unreliable. He will not commit himself by his troops shooting or moving closer to any known enemy within 600 paces, until any of:
If he is of a different nation to the main army, or of the same nation in a civil war, his command will change sides and become a committed enemy command , if prior to any of these any of its own sides commands become demoralized unless otherwise noted in the Army list. Its baggage also change sides.
Insert rule after PLAYER INITIATIVE POINT DICEING (Pg. 17) in DBR.
Include a provision for Wb(E) to provide rear support to each other.
Change DBR pg. 20 , para. 4, line 4, to: "Pistols except (F), Shot (O) or (I) and Warband (E), (S), or (O) add +1 for 1 supporting rank."
