Just the basics

As the page title implies, this is just the basics to forming a security perimeter with which to secure your personal and financial data. These steps should be easy to follow and understand. With a little practice, you should be able to enable or disable these settings quickly and with little thought.

As always, start with the Start button.

Now scroll up to settings.

Click on control panel.

Find and click on Internet.

Click on the Security tab.

Click on Custom.

Click on the Settings tab.

Now. Scroll through this window and disable all Java, Java scripting and ActiveX controls.

Click OK.

Next. Click on the Advanced tab.

Disable cookies and Java. (Unchecked is disabled)

Click On Apply. This will set all of the rules you have just set.

Click OK.

Congratulations. You have just completed the first step in building your security perimeter and developing safe surfing habits.
To access sites that you trust that require Java or cookies, start at the first step and follow through to the end of this page, except you will be enabling Java and/or cookies. Neither Java Scripting nor ActiveX controls should ever need to be enabled. It is that simple.
