"Turning a Crankbait"
To fine tune your crankbait, slightly bend the line tie eye. Lure runs to right, bend eye to left. Lure runs left, bend eye to the right.
Maps
Preserving your lake/fishing maps can be accomplished by encasing the map between clear contact paper. It will fold easily, not rip and be waterproof, plus you can use a grease pen or white board marker for temporary notations.
Knot Basics
A few fundamental hints will help you tie stronger and more reliable fishing knots. First, dampen the line with saliva or water before tightening the knot; the dampness helps you cinch the knot tighter. And tighten the knot s-l-o-w-l-y; tightening too quick creates more heat in the line, and even a small amount of heat can weaken the knot.
Dangerous Sports.............
How dangerous is fishing? A recent survey indicated that fishing generated fewer emergency room visits per 100,0000 participants than did tennis, roller-skating, basketball and six other sports. Fishing was, however, deemed more dangerous than golf, bowling and billiards.
It is estimated that more than 50 million plastic fishing worms are produced annually in the United States
Black Bass
Ever wonder how black bass got that name (since adults are typically green, brown or bronze colored)? During the fingerling stage, they do appear black.
A long standing rule for Arkansas hunters and fishermen still isn't widely known. It requires information in writing for one person to possess game taken or caught by another person. Included in the Arkansas Game and Fish 2000 Regulations booklet (page 12) is a form for anglers to cut out and fill in if they give their catch to someone. Source: Democrat-Gazette Press Services
Good Vibrations........
Part of what makes spinnerbaits effective is the show...the flash of the spinning blade. But the blade also creates fish attracting vibrations in the water. You can make your spinnerbait vibrate more by bending open the V-shaped angle between the blade and the hook.
Bass have an incredible sense of smell. In fact, theirs is one hundred times better than a dog's and one thousand times better than a human's, according to studies conducted at the University of Oklahoma.
Hook choice.........
There are a myriad of fishing-hook styles to choose from. The bent bottom of the hook is the key feature in terms of hook strength and penetrating capabilities. In general, hooks with sharp-angles bend are more likely to snap off in the mouth of a fish, while hooks with a rounded bend are more likely to twist or bend open under pressure.
Monofiliment test strength........
If you are using six-pound test line, six pounds of pressure will snap the line, correct? And eight pounds of pressure will break an eight-pound test line, right? Wrong! Most lines can absorb 10-30 -percent more weight than their "test" weight before breaking.
Now you see them, now you don't. Fish hooks embedded in the mouth of a fish will actually disappear over time. How long does it take for a hook to dissolve? On average, two to three weeks; the process can be speeded by warm water.
