The 9 Commandments

Mestre Bimba academy had a board containing 9 rules involving
technical and disciplinary aspects. These rules were the following:

1. Quit smoking. It's forbidden to smoke during training.
2. Quit drinking. The use of alcohol jeopardizes the muscles metabolism.
3. Avoid showing off your progress to your friends outside the "roda". Remember that surprise is your best ally on a fight.
4. Avoid talking during training. Your paying the time spent in the academy. Instead, observe the others and you'll learn more.
5. Always do the "ginga".
6. Practice the fundamental exercises every day.
7. Don't be afraid to get close to your opponent. The closer you stay, the better you'll learn.
8. Keep your body relaxed.
9. You better off being hit in the "roda" than in the streets.

The academy of Mestre Bimba, due to it's time necessities,
was not only a intended to teach how to fight but also how to survive.
