Pedal Power Projects
This $.88 Calculator can be used as a counter(now $.99 )
* Turn on calculator.
* Press + button.
* Press 1 (to count in increments of 1).
* Now each time the = button is pressed the display screen increases by 1.
* Pressing the . (decimal) button....Resets.
* * * * *
Now by making a cam on the shaft of a Coil Winder .....running a small spring tipped pushrod down to where the = button will be, you simply turn on the calculator, press +, press 1, slip the calculator into a wedge-shaped holder so the = button is underneath the pushrod and each time you turn the crank it counts the number of turns. Next coil, press the decimal button and it's reset. (remember that most calculators turn themselves off if they're idle for more than 5-6 minutes....so best not to take long breaks while winding a coil)

Look for updates on this project ....like pictures of the actual project completed !! (Yeah....Right.....that'll be a First)
( : >) Norm.
Okay....here's the start of the Heavy Duty coil winder about 10 degrees out in the shed so about 1/2 hour at a time so here is the first pic.
Finally got the larger calculator with larger display they had been out of stock and the only ones I could find were priced at $3, no way! These are priced at $1 ....much better the top section shows the actual size of the two....the smaller one now cost $.99 for a penny difference I guess it's worth it!
Nothing is hooked up yet....the 88 cent counter is replaced by a 99 cent counter (price has went up since about 4 months ago...so what else is new huh?)
This is the basic coil winder has the potential for motor operation (self alining bearings 5/8 inch shaft grease fittings etc.) capable of winding Many coils!

To start with and to make it easier for ones that don't know where to start this presumes
that you don't know what a wire-wrapping tool is( those that do know skip on down)
This is a wire wrap tool (about 6inches long)
With this tool you can wrap wire around the terminals of a wire-wrap socket....It is advisable to use sockets for components while it is tempting to just wrap the wire directl around those little pins on those little components ....Don't ! Bad idea!
