| Misc --This is one of the early column-shift Jeeps with the indents on the drivers side for shovel and axe. From 1945 to early 1946 the military surplus bodies were used until there were no more. These are the most saught after CJ-2A models and the most expensive to acquire. Finding one with a full floating Rear Axle is a Plus. The advantage here is that with a few modifications you can install lockout hubs on the rear so the jeep can be towed free wheeling without disconecting the drivechain. | ||
| History -- Serial
# 25538. This is a very special and very collectable
early 46 CJ made the year I was born. It is totally
original and now has 95% of its original parts. It also
has the original front PTO installed but I don't have the
front winch yet.. I reciently painted it an apple red. It
has been converted to a 12 Volt system. All the major
seals have been replaced and new fluids added. A broken
right front drive shaft had to be replaced with original
ballbearing universal joint shaft. Rebuilt Master
cylinder, Starter, Carburator, Generator, Transmission,
and Distributor. New plugs, wires, coil, points,
condencer. New wiring throughout and added fuse box. New
upholstered padded spring original seats. A rear CJ seat
has been found and installed. Everthing works on dash
except the speedo which reciently broke. The gas tank has
been repaired, cleaned, and recoated. An original CJ2A
windshield has just been accquired and refurbished and
install. THIS PROJECT took me less than a year to
complete. The Jeep was purchased in May of 1999. I had
three running jeeps that I was working on, all CJ2a's,
plus another 46cj waiting its turn but decieded to sell
the others, except for two non-running 47's to use as
parts. UPDATE: Feb.16,2000. Just purchased a 1947 Orange CJ2A Jeep locally, and a 1948 CJ2A Blue from Tenn. with a 49 title. These are the other two running jeeps. Both jeeps need a lot of TLC but have a lot of original equipment and the price was right. UPDATE: Jan. 2002. I have sold the 1947 to a man in Houston Tx. and the 1948 to another in Mo. Also a non-running 1947 to a couple of nice gentelmen, I forget where from, somewhere up north. Anyway, this leaves me with only my 1946 Pride and Joy and three other non-running ,47's for parts. I did this not because I intend to quit jeepin altogether, but because my health would not allow me to mechanic as I would like to. My Little Red Jeep is still running well and I have had a lot of fun and adventrues in it over the past few years. I intend for it to say in the family for as long as it will continue to function. |
