Rascal Flatts Charging Fines
Since the release of their self-titled soon-to-be platinum debut album, Gary Levox, Jay DeMarcusand Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts have learned quite a few lessons about fame. The demands of a rigorous concert schedule, thanks to the buzz created by their high-energy shows, have placed them away from home more than at home. But they are the first to admit how blessed their careers have been and feel honored to have shared the stage with some of
Nashville's top performers (Alan Jackson, Jo Dee Messina, Brad Paisley, etc). However, to ensure the longevity of the group a few rules have been implemented.
"We spend so much time together that we have had to remember to be considerate of each other and to be mindful of that we established a fine," says DeMarcus. "If you show up late for sound check, an interview, a meeting or leave your junk out for everyone to trip over on the bus... it costs you $25," says Levox. Rooney explains, "Yeah, and I seem to be the poorest member right now."
The steep fines are also imposed on the band members and road crew for bus etiquette. At the end of the year, the person with the least amount of infractions gets the cash.
RF Goes Platinum
Congratulations to the men of Rascal Flatts whose debut album has now been certified platinum! Way to go guys!
DeMarcus "Wrights" a Hit
Chely Wright's new album, Never Love You Enough, features a song called "Jezebel" that was co-written by Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus, who once played in Wright's band.
DeMarcus talked about writing the song for his old boss : "It's really neat to be on Chely Wright's record having worked for her for two years. And it was a really, really a cool opportunity, she called me one morning on the way to a writing appointment with Marcus Hummon and she said, 'What are you doing?' and I said, 'I'm getting ready to go write.' She said, 'Listen, I still need a tune. I need a good up tune.' She said, 'Why don't you go in there and write one.' So, I talked with Marcus and we sat down and wrote that tune literally in probably two hours."
After writing "Jezebel," DeMarcus got in his car to deliver his new creation. "I drove straight to her house and played this little crappy recording of it. And she said, 'I think that's a hit, I really like that song. I really want to cut that.' And I was like, 'What! Are you kidding me?' So, just to be a part of that is awesome."
