Honey Bear has been with our family since six weeks of age. She is a very sweet, loving dog. We often say that Honey sell's her own puppies, we have nothing to do with it. After spending time around her people are impressed with her gentle, kind disposition, and we've found that her puppies are instilled with this same sweet personality.
But don't let this fool you. Honey Bear has plenty of energy and loves to play. She learns very quickly, loves to fetch and enjoys whatever we do with her (aside from flea dips). She completed a Companion Dog course and behaves herself very impressively in all situations. But find out for yourself, come visit and let Honey Bear sell you one of her puppies!
As a note of interest for any trivia lovers. Honey bear has a small black spot located directly behind her right shoulder. Originally we thought that she had a small spot of grease on her shoulder but upon bringing her home we found that it was actually black hair. The only reference that we've found to this is in The Complete Labrador Retreiver by Helen Warwick. She reports;
"Black on yellow is very raree indeed, but those who knew a well known yellow champion in England, with generations of yellow behind him, remember that he had a black spot on his rib that could only be noticed if the outer coat were well pushed back. We had a yellow stud puppy by Ch. Lockerbie Blackfella similarly marked; we first thought he had gotten in grease under the car; the dark spot disappeared with his second coat but there were always a few black hairs amont the yellows in that spot."
Honeybear has Ch. Lockerbie Blackfella several generations back. She has yet to produce a puppy with the spot, we don't know if skips generations or is just a very, very rare occurance. We wait anxiously and hopefully though, watching for another. It just give us more proof of how special Honey is!
