Monky Island II
PART 1 - THE LARGO EMBARGO
- At the start of the game you will be mugged by Largo Lagrande
and have your riches taken. Don't worry about this, it can't be
avoided and it would make the game pretty boring if it could!
- Go into the second door on the far side of the screen. Chat
to the cartographer if you like, then pick up the pile of paper
on the right to get a sheet.
- Go into the hatch near the front of the screen. Talk to the
barkeeper, and during your conversation Largo will come in and
spit on the wall. When he leaves use the paper on the spit dripping
down wall to wipe it up. You need this later.
- Walk to the window on the side of the bar (from outside) to
make Guybrush climb through to the kitchen. The cook is not very
informative so pick up the knife from the table and leave through
the window.
- Go to the ship in the distance to the left of the cartographer's
house. It is the laundry. First, talk to the men of low moral
fiber. Eventually, one will ask you to get some wood polish to
polish his leg so ask for the money. Then, take the bucket to
the lower left of the screen.
- Go to the first door past the bridge, the woodsmiths house.
Buy the woodpolish for one piece of eight.
- Return to the laundry and use wood polish on peg leg. Yoyu
get a piece of eight for your trouble.
- Go to the furthest ship to the left, the hotel. Use the knife
on the rope to let the alligator loose. Now look at the bowl,
then pick up the Cheese Squigglies (You do need them later!).
Open the door to the left and go in. It is Largo's room. Pick
up the toupee, then leave.
- Go back to the right until you reach a sign. Pick it up to
get a shovel.
- Leave Woodtick and go to the swamp. Use the coffin and keep
rowing right until you come to the skull. When you are pulled
up pick up the string from the left of the screen. Now walk right
and ask the fortune teller hows business. Keep asking about Largo
and eventually you will volunteer to collect the voodoo doll ingredients.
You get a voodoo shopping list. In fact you already have the items
of the head and body (the toupee and spit on paper), so give them
to the fortune teller if you like. When you reach the shore use
the bucket on the swamp to fill it.
- Go to the cemetary and walk to the graves on the far hill.
Look at the main tombstone, then use the shovel on the grave to
get the bone. This is the Item Of the Dead.
- Walk to the beach and pick up the stick.
- Go to the Largo's room in the hotel. Close the door, then
use the bucket of mud with the door. Now Largo will come in and
get the bucket on his head.
- Go to the laundry where Largo is arguing with Mad Marty. Don't
do anything, just wait until he leaves then go.
- Go back to Largo's room and close the door. Pick up the laundry
claim ticket on the back of the door.
- Go back to the laundry and give the ticket to Marty. You will
get Largo's pearly-white bra! Now you have all four items for
the voodoo doll.
- Return to the voodoo shack and give the toupee, the bone,
the spit on paper and the bra to the voodoo lady. You get the
voodoo doll and some pins.
- Go to Largo's room in the hotel and quickly use the pins in
the doll. Now sit back and watch for a while. When the sequence
has ended you will have a book about Big Whoop and some unwelcome
information.
- Now you're going to make a rat trap. Return to Woodtick and
go to the Laundry. Open the box below the three pirates and use
the stick on it to prop it open. Use the string with the stick
and the Cheese Squigglies with the box. Now walk a safe distance
away and get ready. When the rat stops to eat the squigglies,
pull the string to trap him. Finally, open the box and pick up
the trapped and cowering rat.
- Let yourself into the kitchen of the Bloody Lip Bar through
the window and use the captured rat in the pot of vichyssoise.
- Now go in the hatch of the bar and ask the barman how the
stew is doing. He will fire the cook and offer you the job which
you should accept, getting you 420 pieces of eight. Now leave
the kitchen through the window. The next time you go into the
hatch you will be fired but don't worry, it doesn't matter at
all.
- Go to Wally the cartographer's house and select the pick up
function. After a bit of writing Wally puts down his monocle to
rub his eyes. As soon as he does this, pick up the monocle and
leave.
- Leave woodtick and go to the penninsular in the lower left
of the map. Walk to the houseboat and when inside ask Captain
Dread to charter his ship. He will tell you he can't sail without
his lucky necklace so give him the monocle. Now just pay the 20
pieces of eight and you're off Scabb Island.
PART 2 - FOUR MAP PIECES
- First pick up the parrot chow on the floor, then go into the
boat. Ask Captain Dread what your choices are, and head for Booty
Island.
- When you arrive, go into the Booty Boutique, the first building
on the left. Here you should buy (by picking up) the well-polished
old saw in the barrel by the door, the ship's horn hanging behind
the parrot and the Beware of the Parrot sign to the right of the
bird.
- Later you need the mirror which the parrot is looking in so
you must distract it before you pick it up. There is a hook where
the Beware Of The Parrot sign was, use the parrot chow on it and
then pick up the mirror.
- Now go right and talk to the woman in the big hat. Ask her
for a leaflet and you get one with a big picture of her.
- Go in Stan's Used Coffins, and after a while he will give
you a hankie. This is very important later in the game.
- Now leave the village (try the spitting contest on the way,
it's fun!) and go to Dread's ship. Head for Phatt Island where
you will be arrested, taken to see Governer Phatt and thrown in
jail.
- To escape your cell, open the rock hard matress and pick up
the stick underneath. Use the stick on the bone in the next room,
then pick up the bone. Use it on Walt, and pick up the key. Use
the key in the cell door.
- Before you leave open the manilla and gorilla envelopes on
the shelf to get all your items plus a banana and an organ.
- When you leave, go down the nearest alley and watch the wheel
game. Follow the winner to the other alley. When he leaves, walk
to the slot on door and ask for the next winning number. To beat
the code, just answer the number of fingers he holds up first.
Ignore what he says and the second number of fingers. It's that
simple! Now go to the first alley and bet on the number you were
given. Take the invitation when you win.
- Now use the leaflet on your wanted poster by the jail and
walk to Dread's ship. You will see Captain Kate being arrested.
Go straight back to Phatt Island, go in the jail and open the
vanilla envelope on the shelf to get a bottle of near-grog. Use
the small key in the cell door to let Kate out.
- When you leave, walk to the fisherman on the pier and bet
you can catch a bigger fish than he can.
- Go in the library and ask the librarian if you can take a
book out. Give her the personal information and you will get a
temporary library card. On your way out open the lighthouse and
pick up the model lighthouse lens.
- Go back to Scabb Island and go to the laundry. Use the well-polished
old saw on the peg leg and leave. Now go to the woodsmith's house
and pick up the hammer and nails near the door.
- Go to the Bloody Lip Bar and talk to the Barkeeper. Order
a grog, and when he asks for ID show him the temporary library
card. Now, get a Blue Whale and a Yellow Beards Baby.
- Still in the bar, use the banana on the metronome and pick
up Jojo.
- Go to Booty Island and walk to Stan's Used Coffins. Get him
to show you the deluxe coffin, and he'll get in. Now close the
coffin and quickly use the nails in the coffin to seal him in.
Pick up the crypt key behind the counter and leave.
- Now walk right to the spitting contest, which you need to
win. First, walk to the right of the screen and use the ship's
horn. The Spitmaster will rush off to get the mailboat. You don't
have much time, so quickly pick up the flag in first place. When
the Spitmaster returns, use the yellow drink in the blue drink
to make a green drink. Use the crazy straw in the green drink
to thicken your spit. Now walk to the fault line and spit. If
you don't win try again and you should, getting the spit plaque.
- Walk left to the costume shop. Once inside, give the invitation
to the shopkeeper and he will show you your costume, a dress!
Pick it up and leave.
- Go left once more to the Booty Boutique and give the spit
plaque to the shopkeeper. Convince him how valuable it is by telling
him the spit of the person who killed LeChuck is on it. He will
give you 6000 pieces of eight for it. Also, ask him if he accepts
visa, and keep asking about trade-ins he accepts. Eventually he
will tell you he'll give you the map piece if you get the figurehead
of the Mad Monkey.
- Go to Phatt Island and go in the library. Look at the card
catalog and the c-d drawer. Look at the Great Shipwrecks Of Our
Century and remember it. Ask the librarian for it. Now look at
the book and it will tell you the Mad Monkey sank at 33N 83W.
- Head back to Booty Island and talk to Captain Kate. Tell her
you want to charter a ship and pay the 6000 pieces of eight. Now
go to 33N 83W and dive. Pick up the Monkey head and swim left
to the anchor. Use the anchor. Now return to Booty Island.
- Go in the Booty Boutique and give the Monkey Head to the antique
dealer. You now have the first map piece!
- Go to the path to the left of the cannon and go to the small
structure near the mansion. Show the guard your invitation and
costume and she'll let you through.
- Follow the path into the mansion and pick up the map piece
on the left. When you try to leave the dog will smell you and
you'll be taken to see the governor. Keep saying the nicest thing
in the selection and eventually she will take pity, but then throw
the map out the window! Go outside and keep walking to it until
it blows away. Now walk back to the mansion and pick up the dog
(This has the added advantage of making Guybrush change out of
that dress!).
- Walk to the side of the house and try to pick up the garbage
can, rattling it. When the cook bursts out run back to the front
and round to the back again the other way (he should chase you).
Quickly go in the open kitchen door and pick up the fish.
- Go back inside the mansion and go upstairs to Elaines room.
Pick up the oar above her bed and leave.
- Go to the big tree at the top right of the island and use
the oar in the second hole. Walk up the tree root to the left
of the plank and walk onto the plank. Now walk on the oar, which
will break. Sit back and watch the dream. Now pick up the broken
oar and leave.
- You need to get the oar fixed, so go to Scabb Island and go
to the woodsmith's house. Give him the oar and he will reinforce
it.
- Go to Phatt Island and walk to the fisherman you had a bet
with. Give him the fish to get the fishing pole.
- Go back to Booty and go to the cliff near the bottom of the
island map. Walk to the cliff side and use the fishing pole with
the map piece. As you haul it in a bird will grab it and take
it to the big tree.
- Go to the big tree and use the reinforced oar in the second
hole. Get on the oar and pick up the plank behind you. Use it
in the hole in front and walk onto it. Now pick up the oar behind
and use it in the hole in front etc etc until you are at the top.
- Go into the main hut and use the dog in the pile of maps.
He will emerge with the second map piece! Before you leave, go
up to the small hut in the top left of the screen and pick up
the telescope.
- Go to the waterfall on Phatt Island. Follow the path to the
top of the waterfall where there is a pump. Use Jojo on the pump
and go down to the newly discovered gaping hole. Go in and keep
walking left to the beach. Go up to the cottage.
- Enter the cottage and keep talking until the retired pirate
challenges you to a drinking contest. To win, when he brings you
your mug of grog use it on the tree to tip it away. Now use the
bottle of near-grog in the empty mug. You will drink it all, then
he will faint.
- Now use the mirror in the mirror frame and open the shutters
in the lower right of the room. Go outside and use the telescope
with the grotesque statue. The light will burn a hole in a brick.
Go inside and push the brick with the burn-mark. You will fall
into a small room containing the third map piece!
- Go to Phatt Library and check out any book (look at the card
catalog, look at a book tab and remember it then talk to the librarian).
Now go to the Mansion at the bottom of the map and go in. Get
rid of the guard (it's not difficult!) and go upstairs. Governer
Phatt has a book you need, so use the book you checked out with
'Famous Pirate Quotations' to replace it.
- Go to the cemetary on Scabb Island. Use the crypt key in the
crypt near the center of the screen and go in.
- Look at Famous Pirate Quotations to find out Rapp Scallions
quote. Find the coffin with the same quote by looking at them
all and open it. Pick up the ashes that are inside.
- Go to the swamp and row to the voodoo shack. Look at the jars
until you find one called Ash-2-Life. Pick it up and the voodoo
lady will call you in. Give her the ashes and she will tell you
she doesn't have the recipe!
- Go to Phatt Library and look at the PQR drawer. Remember the
book under Recipes, Voodoo 'The Joy Of Hex'. Take it out.
- Go back to the voodoo lady and give her the book. She will
give you the Ash-2-Life powder.
- Go back into the crypt and look at the coffin. Use the Ash-2-Life
on the ashes and Rapp Scallion will return. He will ask you to
check he didn't leave the gas on in his restaurant.
- Go to the beach and use the small key in the shack door. Go
in and use the knob, turning off the gas.
- Return to the cemetary and use the Ash-2-Life on the ashes
again. Tell Rapp you turned off the gas and you have the fourth
and last map piece!
- Go to Scabb Island and go to Wally's. Give him the model lighthouse
lens to replace his monocle, then give him a map piece. He will
agree to make it all into one map if you go and get his love potion
from the voodoo shack.
- Go to the voodoo lady and ask for wally's love potion. Look
at the Juju bag to get the matches and love bomb.
- Go back to the Cartographer's to find Wally has been kidnapped
by Lechuck! Now go to the swamp and use the crate on the shore.
You are on your way to Lechucks fortress.
PART 3 - LECHUCK'S FORTRESS
- When you emerge from the crate, walk right up the stairs to
the passage. Go right once more along the path in the foreground,
NOT the path behind the wall. Go right past one more screen to
a jail. Look at the jail cell to find Wally. ask him about the
map, then say you're going to bust down the door. He says the
key is probably in the office down the hall.
- Go back to the room with signs, then go along the right back
passage. This next bit is difficult to explain. The ugly bone
things in the background can be pushed to reveal more passages.
Look at the spit encrusted paper to see the song you saw in the
dream. If it says Head connected to Rib connected to Arm, for
example, find the ugly bone thing which has a skull at the top,
then ribs, then arms. If the right combination is not there, walk
right until you find it. Go through each verse in order, pushing
the bone thing it says and going through. If it doesn't work keep
trying!
- If you've done it right you should come to a huge door. Push
it to reveal a doggy door, and go through. Pick up the voodoo
key and you will be trapped and taken to the torture machine.
- When Lechuck leaves, use the crazy straw in the green drink
and keep spitting at the shiels just to Guybrushes right. Eventually
the spit will put out the candle and you will find yourself in
a completely dark room. Use the matches and you will blow up.
PART 4 - DINKY ISLAND
- When you land on Dinky Island there are four things you need
to pick up. Get the bottle floating near the shore, the martini
glass under the water still, the crowbar near the water still
and the cracker which you can find by opening the barrel.
- Use the crowbar on the bottle to break it.
- Use the martini glass on the ocean to fill it with seawater.
Now use it on the still to get the glass of distilled water.
- Give the cracker to the parrot to get the first direction.
- Walk left to the jungle. Take the path directly left, then
the slanting path up. You should be in a screen with a bag hanging
from a tree. Use the broken bottle on the bag and pick up the
box.
- Look at the box, then use the glass of distilled water on
the cracker mix to get two more crackers.
- Go back two screens and take the path to the right. Pull the
rope on the box and use the crowbar on the box to get the dynamite.
- The parrot told you to go due East from the pond, so go right
two screens to the dinosaur. When the parrot flies in, give it
another cracker.
- Follow the directions, keep going up to the rocks where you
should give your last cracker to the parrot and follow the directions
it gives you.
- When you come to the X, Herman will walk in. Go back through
the shortcut to the X and use the shovel on it.
- When you hit cement, use the matches on the dynamite and the
dynamite with the big hole in the ground.
- Now use the crowbar on the rope and use the crowbar 'n' rope
on the twisted metal rods. You will swing across, but fall into
a black screen. Find the lightswitch (it's just to the right of
the center of the screen) for your showdown with Lechuck!
- As you walk around the underground passages, Lechuck will
quite frequently appear to teleport you to another room. Just
do the following steps as quickly as possible and not to spend
to long out of a side room as he appears more often in the central
passage.
- To start with, go right one and up to the store room. Open
the four boxes to get a bottle of root beer, a doll and a balloon.
- Now come out, go right one and up into the first aid room.
Look at the remains, then pick up Dad's remains to get the skull.
Also open the medical drawer to the right of the screen and get
the syringe. Open the trash can and pick up the stuff to get two
surgical gloves.
- Come out of the first aid room, go left twice and up. Use
the balloon and both surgical gloves on the helium tank to inflate
them.
- Now you have all the items to defeat LeChuck. You need to
make a voodoo doll of him and the following steps tell you how
to make each part of the doll.
- Item of the Dead: You have it already. LeChuck is your brother,
so use your father's skull in the Juju bag to put it in.
- Item of the Body: You must be extremely quick. When LeChuck
finds you, quickly give him the clean white hanky. When he has
blown his nose and you have been transported, put the hanky in
the Juju bag.
- Item of the Thread: Go to the room with the helium tank and
use the coin return. When Lechuck comes in and bends over to pick
up the coin pick up LeChuck's underpants. Put them in the Juju
bag.
- Item of the Head: Go in the lift by pressing the call button.
Again you have to be really quick. When LeChuck comes, use the
lever. The lift should go up, trapping LeChuck's beard in the
door. Pick up the beard bits and put them in the Juju bag. Finally,
put the doll in the bag.
- Go back down in the lift and when LeChuck comes in, use the
hypodermic needle in the voodoo doll. Now follow LeChuck and when
you find him rip the leg off the voodoo doll. Now sit back and
watch the ending sequence.
