During the 1998-1999 school year the Smith School PTA accomplished many goals.

The first being 100% teacher participation membership! Way to go Staff!!!!

The 1998 Fall Fundraiser profited over $8,000
and the Spring Fundraiser profited over $5,000.
The money raised helped to provide for many things throughout the school year.
All teachers were allowed a $200.00 allottment for field trips outside the school. Students were able to visit many different places such as Plymouth Plantation in Massachusettes, Beardsley Zoo in Connecticut, Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, the Air Museum in Windsor CT. as well as local stops like our very own City Hall.

The 5th. grade graduating class received a trip to a local camp for the day, where they were able to play baseball, basketball, swim and hike. They were also provided with a 1999 signature t-shirt.

The 1998-1999 4th grade class did such a wonderful job with their CMT testing they were each given a Smith School Baseball cap provided by the PTA and the Smith School Staff.

The kindergarten classes were able to have a live turkey come in and visit with them.

At the end of the school year the PTA was able to provide a new Movie Screen for the auditorium for the whole student body and staff to enjoy next year, and the cost was minimal thanks to second grade teacher Anthony Cavallo.  Way to go Mr. "C".

The 1998 Fall Cupcake Sale helped to provide for a Special Smith School Family, winter coats and hats were purchased for the students and a Thanksgiving Dinner was provided to their family.

Another child size rocker was provided to the library for the new reading nook, started by our wonderful librarian Mrs. Dubnansky.

Connecticut Special Olympics was provided with a small donation with the proceeds made from our 1999 Winter cupcake sale.

Special thanks to two wondeful PTA members for thier efforts in providing Grants to our organization.
Parent Bud Volz for bringing in a $500.00 grant from the Aetna Foundation for the second year in a row, and 5th. grade teacher Mrs. Chris Wilmes for a State Grant .
Both grants were used to help defray the cost of two cultural events held for the entire school in the year.
During 1998-1999 school year the Smith School PTA hosted four Cultural events for the entire school..




The 1999 Smith School Year Book was a success, thanks to all that helped put it together, and participated in having their picture printed in it.
