 Here ye my rune from, the blue deeps of far days,
Sang and flush'd Iona's heart,
Columcill hath the keen eye of eagle,
So to seek the noontide of nine rays.

Here ye my rune from, the blue deeps of far days,
Sang and throbbed Iona's heart,
Columcill hath the strong back of elk-stag,
So to bear all our people's burdens.

Here my rune from, the blue deeps of far days,
Sang and thrilled Iona's heart,
Columcill hath the soft hand of woman,
So to soothe the sore hurt of bruised ones.

Columcill means 'Columba of the cell'-
i.e. 'of the ashrama'.
