The school has facilities for sports of various kinds.
There is a large basketball court, attached to the kho-kho ground, a ring tennis court, a
tennis court and large practice areas.
 Despite being an all
girls' school, cricket, which was previously considered only a man's game, has also taken
a firm root in the school. Though only about 2 years have passed since cricket coaching
began, the school won the all-Mumbai tournament last year and reached the semi-finals of
the Maharashtra level tournament at Ahmednagar. A few of the players were selected to play
at the national level to be held at Jammu, including the captain, and two other players.
The team is being coached by Mr. M. D. Paralkar, secretary of the Mumbai School Sports
Association, who organised the Harris Shield Centenary at the Wankhede Stadium last year.

Basketball
has by far been the school's oldest pursued inter-school sport. For years now, the
basketball team has done well against different teams of Mumbai, as well as those of
Maharashtra. Provided with a large practice court and excellent equipment, the basketball
team is probably the most tenacious and hardworking, after the cricket team, of course ;-)
The team has travelled to many places in Mumbai and Maharashtra for their tournaments and
has emerged successful in many places. Recently, they defeated the team of the American
Consulate School comprehensively. The team does a lot of fitness and stamina training, as
early as 7:00 in the morning for about 5 hours!

Kho-Kho
is a game I guess only Indians are familiar with. Its rather an intriguing game,
comprising of 9 players on each team, with three extras, that come into play if the
situation demands it. Its a game of 9 against 1 and bagging "wickets"... no not
cricket wickets, but wickets which mean the players of the opposition team. There are two
innings and each team gets the opportunity to field twice each. Kho-Kho basically requires
a lot of running-stamina and quick thinking, along with strategic planning. The game is
umpired by two refrees and the scorers. Its rather like an extremely complicated form of "Catch".

This game is
very similar to volleyball, except that its not played on the beach, and it has a rubber
ring instead of a ball. There are 5 players on each side of the net, while the teams take
turns in serving. Ring tennis has just recently been introduced in the school, and there
aren't many schools in Mumbai that play this game in an inter-school level. These matches
are conducted between the different classes of the Secondary Section, just like the
basketball and kho-kho matches. There is no fixed coaching for this game, but students
take the initiative and practice whenever they get the time. In a few years time, this
sport will probably become as popular with the students as the others.

St. Columba's Alumni
record boasts of many excellent athletes, some of whom even made it at the national level.
Names like Gandhali Shroff, Manali More, Vijeta Sharma, Kalyani Tengshe trigger memories
of players who were resolute and persevering to the extreme. Athletics and running has
always been one of the strong points of the school's sports. The heats and Athletic Meets
conducted by the school annually, from the 1st grade to the 10th grade, inspire the
students to try their hand at different forms of athletics. The 100 metres, 800 metres,
1200 metres and the House Relays are the most sought after trophies and medals. With good
luck, one of these enthusiastic players could well become the P.T. Usha of tomorrow!
