CHAPTER 1
Unitarian vs Trinitarian. How Many Are They?
Various Christian groups (most prominently, the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Unitarian/Universalist) reject the idea of a “ Trinity” and prefer to believe in a singular “one” God, namely the God of Jesus, the Father. These groups reject the idea of Jesus being God and the Holy Ghost being God, who are in a state of equality with God the Father.
These are passages which prove there really is a personage known as the Holy Ghost. He is constantly mentioned in close proximity with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ which shows he is a member of the Triad of the Godhead.
As a matter of course, the word “God” in nearly all instances is used to refer to Heavenly Father and is detached from the Son and the Holy Ghost. However, this usage doesn’t invalidate the status of the Son and the Holy Ghost as being “God” themselves since there are many passages which identify them as such (concerning the Son’s status, see MORMONISM: Section 2, concerning the Holy Ghost’s status, see chapter three).
Due to the nature of writing, some NT passages will mention the “Father” or “God” in isolation. Some passages refer to the “Son,” “Jesus” or “Christ” in isolation. Some refer to the “Holy Ghost,” “Spirit” or “Spirit of God” in isolation. Some passages mention the “Father/God” together with “Jesus/Christ/Son.” Others refer to “Jesus/Christ/Son” together with “the Holy Ghost/Spirit/Spirit of God.” Still others refer to the “Father/God” together with “the Holy Ghost/Spirit/Spirit of God.”
If only one personage is referred to, the passage mentions a “oneness.” If two are referred to, the passage refers to a “twoness.” If three are grouped together, the passage refers to a “threeness.” Isolating passages that only refer to the “Father/God” in arguing the NT teaches a Unitarian view of God is untenable since there are other passages which refer to a “twoness” and “threeness” of the Godhead. Any “one” is by default swallowed up by a “two” and any “one” or “two” is encompassed up by a “three,” since the higher value is always comprised of more than a lesser one.
Ryan is referred to in a particular book as a teacher. This same book describes Daniel as a teacher and also describes Justin as a teacher. Some portions group Ryan and Daniel, others group Ryan and Justin, others group Daniel and Justin. Still others group all three of them. Just because numerous passages exist that refer to Ryan as a teacher, doesn’t invalidate the status of Daniel and Justin as also being teachers. Passages which refer to Ryan as a teacher that are viewed to mean he’s the only teacher are automatically invalidated by other passages which describes Ryan and Daniel as teachers. These “twoness” of teachers are, in turn, invalidated by passages which refer to all three in close proximity with one another.
Here are all the passages I could find which describes a “threeness” of the Godhead. I bypassed some that mention “Lord” which weren’t very clear as to which personage they were referring to. My challenge is simple to those who reject any “threeness” of the Godhead: “Count how many personages are described.”
HOLY BIBLE:
(1) Matt 3:16-17 And Jesus, (1) when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, (2) and lighting upon him: and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, (3) in whom I am well pleased.
(2) Matt 4:1-3 Then was Jesus (1) led up of the Spirit (2) into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God (3), command that these stones be made bread.
(3) Matt 22:43-44 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit (1) call him Lord, saying, The LORD (2) said unto my Lord (3), Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
(4) Matt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, (1) and of the Son, (2) and of the Holy Ghost. (3)
(5) Mark 1:10-11 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit (1) like a dove descending upon him: (2) And there came a voice from heaven,(3) saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
(6) Mark 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost (1), The Lord (2) said to my Lord (3), Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
(7) Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost (1) shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest (2) shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son (3) of God.
(8) Luke 3:21-22 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus (1) also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove (2) upon him, and a voice came from heaven, (3) which said, thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
(9) Luke 4:1-3 And Jesus (1) being full of the Holy Ghost (2) returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, (3) command this stone that it be made bread.
(10) John 1:33-34 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. (1) And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son (2) of God (3).
(11) John 3:5,34-35 Jesus (1) answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit (2), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God (3) ... For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God (1) giveth not the Spirit (2) by measure unto him (3). The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
(12) John 6:63-65 It is the spirit (1) that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus (2) knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father (3).
(13) John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, (1) whom the Father (2) will send in my name, (3) he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
(14) John 15:26 But when the Comforter (1) is come, whom I (2) will send unto you from the Father, (3) even the Spirit (1) of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, (2) he shall testify of me. (3)
(15) John 16:15( 10-33) All things that the Father (1) hath are mine: therefore said I, (2) that he (3) shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
(16) Acts 2:32-33 This Jesus (1) hath God (2) raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, (3) he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
(17) Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, (1) whom God (2) hath given to them that obey him [Jesus] (3).
(18) Acts 10:38 How God (1) anointed Jesus (2) of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost (3) and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
(19) Acts 11:16-17 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, (1) how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. (2) Forasmuch then as God (3) gave them the like gift (1) as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ (2) ; what was I, that I could withstand God (3)?
(20) Acts 20:21-24 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God (1), and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ (2). And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit (3) unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost (1) witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus (2), to testify the gospel of the grace of God (3).
(21) Rom 1:3-4 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, (1) which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God (2) with power, according to the spirit (3) of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
(22) Rom 5:5-6 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God (1) is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost (2) which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ (3) died for the ungodly.
(23) Rom 7:25-8:3 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God (1); but with the flesh the law of sin. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, (2) who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit (3). For the law of the Spirit (1) of life in Christ Jesus (2) hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God (3) sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.
(24) Rom 8:9,11,16-17,27-29,39-9:1 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit (1), if so be that the Spirit of God (2) dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ (3), he is none of his ... But if the Spirit (1) of him [the Father] (2) that raised up Jesus (3) from the dead dwell in you, he [the Father] (1) that raised up Christ (2) from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit (3) that dwelleth in you ... The Spirit (1) itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God (2): And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ (3); if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together ... And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit (1), because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God (2). And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son (3), that he might be the firstborn among many brethren ... Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God (1), which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (2). I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost. (3)
(25) Rom 15:16,19,30 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ (1) to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God (2), that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost (3) ... Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit (1) of God (2); so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ (3) ... Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's (1) sake, and for the love of the Spirit (2), that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God (3) for me.
(26) 1 Cor 2:1-4,8-10,13-16 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God (1). For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ (2), and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit (3) and of power ... Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory [Jesus] (1). But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God (2) hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit (3): for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God ... Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost (1) teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God (2): for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ (3).
(27) 1 Cor 6:11,15-19 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus (1) , and by the Spirit (2) of our God (3) ... Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ (1), and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost (2) which is in you, which ye have of God (3), and ye are not your own?
(28) 1 Cor 12:3-6 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God (1) calleth Jesus (2) accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost (3). Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit (1). And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord (2). And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God (3) which worketh all in all.
(29) 2 Cor 1:21-22 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ (1), and hath anointed us, is God (2); Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit (3) in our hearts.
(30) 2 Cor 3:3-6 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ (1) ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit (2) of the living God (3); not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. And such trust have we through Christ (1) to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God (2); Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit (3) giveth life.
(31) 2 Cor 12:18-19 I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit (1)? walked we not in the same steps? Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God (2) in Christ (3): but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
(32) 2 Cor 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, (1) and the love of God, (2) and the communion of the Holy Ghost, (3) be with you all. Amen.
(33) Gal 2:21-3:2 I do not frustrate the grace of God (1): for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ (2) hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit (3) by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
(34) Gal 3:11-14 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God (1), it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ (2); that we might receive the promise of the Spirit (3) through faith.
(35) Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God (1) hath sent forth the Spirit (2) of his Son (3) into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
(36) Eph 1:13-17 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit (1) of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus (2), and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God (3) of our Lord Jesus Christ (1), the Father (2) of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom (3) and revelation in the knowledge of him.
(37) Eph 2:18,20-22 For through him [Jesus] (1) we both have access by one Spirit (2) unto the Father (3) ... And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ (1) himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God (2) through the Spirit (3).
(38) Eph 3:5-7,14-16 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit (1); That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ (2) by the gospel: Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God (3) given unto me by the effectual working of his power ... For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father (1) of our Lord Jesus Christ (2), Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit (3) in the inner man.
(39) Eph 4:4-6,30-32 There is one body, and one Spirit (1), even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord [Jesus] (2), one faith, one baptism, One God and Father (3) of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all ... And grieve not the holy Spirit (1) of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God (2) for Christ's (3) sake hath forgiven you.
(40) Eph 5:18-20 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit (1); Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father (2) in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (3)
(41) Col 1:6-8 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God (1) in truth: As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ (2); Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit (3).
(42) 1 Th 1:3-9 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, (1) in the sight of God and our Father; (2) Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in world only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, (3) and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord [Jesus] (1), having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost (2): So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God (3) from idols to serve the living and true God.
(43) 1 Th 5:18-19 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God (1) in Christ Jesus (2) concerning you. Quench not the Spirit (3).
(44) 2 Th 2:13-14 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God (1) for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit (2) and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ (3).
(45) 1 Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God (1) was manifest in the flesh [Jesus-John 1:14; Col 1:15; Heb 1:2-3](2), justified in the Spirit (3), seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
(46) 1 Tim 4:1-6 Now the Spirit (1) speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God (2) hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ (3) , nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
(47) Tit 3:4-6 But after that the kindness and love of God (1) our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (2); Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ (3) our Saviour.
(48) Heb 2:3-4 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord [Jesus](1), and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God (2) also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost (3), according to his own will?
(49) Heb 3:4-7 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God (1). And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; But Christ (2) as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost (3) saith, To day if ye will hear his voice.
(50) Heb 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost (1), And have tasted the good word of God (2), and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God (3) afresh, and put him to an open shame.
(51) Heb 9:6-11,14 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God (1). But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost (2) this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. But Christ (3) being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building ... How much more shall the blood of Christ (1), who through the eternal Spirit (2) offered himself without spot to God (3), purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
(52) Heb 10:12-15,29 But this man [Jesus] (1), after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God (2); From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost (3) also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before ... Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son (1) of God (2), and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit (3) of grace?
(53) 1 Pet 1:2,19-22 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, (1) through sanctification of the Spirit, (2) unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: (3) Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied ... But with the precious blood of Christ (1), as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God (2), that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit (3) unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.
(54) 1 Pet 3:18 For Christ (1) also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God (2), being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. (3)
(55) 1 Pet 4:14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ (1), happy are ye; for the spirit of glory (2) and of God (3) resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
(56) 2 Pet 1:17-21 For he received from God the Father (1) honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son (2), in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (3).
(57) 1 Jn 3:23-24 And this is his [God the Father’s] (1) commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ (2), and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit (3) which he hath given us.
(58) 1 Jn 4:2,13-14 Hereby know ye the Spirit (1) of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ (2) is come in the flesh is of God (3) ... Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit (1). And we have seen and do testify that the Father (2) sent the Son (3) to be the Saviour of the world.
(59) 1 Jn 5:5-6 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son (1) of God (2)? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit (3) that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
(60) Jude 1:20-21 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (1) keep yourselves in the love of God, (2) looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ (3) unto eternal life.
(61) Rev 1:9-10 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ (1), was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God (2), and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit (3) on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.
(62) Rev 2:6-7,17-18 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I [Jesus -Rev 1:17-18](1) also hate. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit (2) saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God (3) ... He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit (1) saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son (2) of God (3), who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass.
(63) Rev 3:12-13 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God (1): and I will write upon him my new name (2). He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit (3) saith unto the churches.
(64) Rev 14:12-13 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God (1), and the faith of Jesus (2). And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit (3), that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
(65) Rev 22:16-18 I Jesus (1) have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit (2) and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God (3) shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.
LATTER-DAY SCRIPTURES:
(1) 1 Ne 10:10-11,17 And after he had baptized the Messiah (1) with water, he should behold and bear record that he had baptized the Lamb of God (2), who should take away the sins of the world. And it came to pass after my father had spoken these words he spake unto my brethren concerning the gospel which should be preached among the Jews, and also concerning the dwindling of the Jews in unbelief. And after they had slain the Messiah, who should come, and after he had been slain he should rise from the dead, and should make himself manifest, by the Holy Ghost (3), unto the Gentiles ... And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father, concerning the things which he saw in a vision, and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost (1), which power he received by faith on the Son (2) of God (3)--and the Son (1) of God (2) was the Messiah who should come--I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things, by the power of the Holy Ghost (3), which is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, as well in times of old as in the time that he should manifest himself unto the children of men.
(2) 1 Ne 11:6,18-19,27 And when I had spoken these words, the Spirit (1) cried with a loud voice, saying: Hosanna to the Lord, the most high God (2); for he is God over all the earth, yea, even above all. And blessed art thou, Nephi, because thou believest in the Son (3) of the most high God; wherefore, thou shalt behold the things which thou hast desired ... And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son (1) of God (2), after the manner of the flesh. And it came to pass that I beheld that she was carried away in the Spirit (3); and after she had been carried away in the Spirit for the space of a time the angel spake unto me, saying: Look! ... And I looked and beheld the Redeemer (1) of the world, of whom my father had spoken; and I also beheld the prophet who should prepare the way before him. And the Lamb of God (2) went forth and was baptized of him; and after he was baptized, I beheld the heavens open, and the Holy Ghost (3) come down out of heaven and abide upon him in the form of a dove.
(3) 1 Ne 12:6-7,18 And I saw the heavens open, and the Lamb (1) of God (2) descending out of heaven; and he came down and showed himself unto them. And I also saw and bear record that the Holy Ghost (3) fell upon twelve others; and they were ordained of God, and chosen ... And the large and spacious building, which thy father saw, is vain imaginations and the pride of the children of men. And a great and a terrible gulf divideth them; yea, even the word of the justice of the Eternal God (1), and the Messiah (2) who is the Lamb of God, of whom the Holy Ghost (3) beareth record, from the beginning of the world until this time, and from this time henceforth and forever.
(4) 1 Ne 13:37-38 And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost (1); and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb (2); and whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be. And it came to pass that I beheld the remnant of the seed of my brethren, and also the book of the Lamb of God (3), which had proceeded forth from the mouth of the Jew, that it came forth from the Gentiles unto the remnant of the seed of my brethren.
(5) 2 Ne 2:8 Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God (1), save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah (2), who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit (3), that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise.
(6) 2 Ne 3:5 Wherefore, Joseph truly saw our day. And he obtained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of his loins the Lord God (1) would raise up a righteous branch unto the house of Israel; not the Messiah (2), but a branch which was to be broken off, nevertheless, to be remembered in the covenants of the Lord that the Messiah should be made manifest unto them in the latter days, in the spirit of power (3), unto the bringing of them out of darkness unto light--yea, out of hidden darkness and out of captivity unto freedom.
(7) 2 Ne 26:11-12 For the Spirit (1) of the Lord (2) will not always strive with man. And when the Spirit ceaseth to strive with man then cometh speedy destruction, and this grieveth my soul. And as I spake concerning the convincing of the Jews, that Jesus is the very Christ (3), it must needs be that the Gentiles be convinced also that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God.
(8) 2 Ne 28:4-5 And they shall contend one with another; and their priests shall contend one with another, and they shall teach with their learning, and deny the Holy Ghost (1), which giveth utterance. And they deny the power of God (2), the Holy One of Israel; and they say unto the people: Hearken unto us, and hear ye our precept; for behold there is no God today, for the Lord and the Redeemer (3) hath done his work, and he hath given his power unto men.
(9) 2 Ne 31:7-8,13-14,18,21 Know ye not that he [Jesus] (1) was holy? But notwithstanding he being holy, he showeth unto the children of men that, according to the flesh he humbleth himself before the Father, and witnesseth unto the Father (2) that he would be obedient unto him in keeping his commandments. Wherefore, after he was baptized with water the Holy Ghost (3) descended upon him in the form of a dove ... Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father (1) that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ (2), by baptism--yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost (3); yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost (1); and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel. But, behold, my beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son (2) unto me, saying: After ye have repented of your sins, and witnessed unto the Father (3) that ye are willing to keep my commandments, by the baptism of water, and have received the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost, and can speak with a new tongue, yea, even with the tongue of angels, and after this should deny me, it would have been better for you that ye had not known me ... And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father (1) and the Son (2); and ye have received the Holy Ghost (3), which witnesses of the Father and the Son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive ... And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father (1), and of the Son (2), and of the Holy Ghost (3), which is one God, without end. Amen.
(10) 2 Ne 32:8-9 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit (1) which teacheth a man to pray ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray. But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father (2) in the name of Christ (3), that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.
(11) Jac 4:12-15 And now, beloved, marvel not that I tell you these things; for why not speak of the atonement of Christ (1), and attain to a perfect knowledge of him, as to attain to the knowledge of a resurrection and the world to come? Behold, my brethren, he that prophesieth, let him prophesy to the understanding of men; for the Spirit (2) speaketh the truth and lieth not. Wherefore, it speaketh of things as they really are, and of things as they really will be; wherefore, these things are manifested unto us plainly, for the salvation of our souls. But behold, we are not witnesses alone in these things; for God (3) also spake them unto prophets of old. But behold, the Jews were a stiffnecked people; and they despised the words of plainness, and killed the prophets, and sought for things that they could not understand. Wherefore, because of their blindness, which blindness came by looking beyond the mark, they must needs fall; for God (1) hath taken away his plainness from them, and delivered unto them many things which they cannot understand, because they desired it. And because they desired it God hath done it, that they may stumble. And now I, Jacob, am led on by the Spirit (2) unto prophesying; for I perceive by the workings of the Spirit which is in me, that by the stumbling of the Jews they will reject the stone [Jesus](3) upon which they might build and have safe foundation.
(12) Jac 6:8 Behold, will ye reject these words? Will ye reject the words of the prophets; and will ye reject all the words which have been spoken concerning Christ (1), after so many have spoken concerning him; and deny the good word of Christ, and the power of God (2), and the gift of the Holy Ghost (3), and quench the Holy Spirit, and make a mock of the great plan of redemption, which hath been laid for you?
(13) Jac 7:8-9,11-14,17-19 But behold, the Lord God (1) poured in his Spirit (2) into my soul, insomuch that I did confound him in all his words. And I said unto him: Deniest thou the Christ (3) who shall come? And he said: If there should be a Christ, I would not deny him; but I know that there is no Christ, neither has been, nor ever will be ... And I said unto him: Then ye do not understand them; for they truly testify of Christ. Behold, I say unto you that none of the prophets have written, nor prophesied, save they have spoken concerning this Christ (1). And this is not all--it has been made manifest unto me, for I have heard and seen; and it also has been made manifest unto me by the power of the Holy Ghost (2); wherefore, I know if there should be no atonement made all mankind must be lost. And it came to pass that he said unto me: Show me a sign by this power of the Holy Ghost, in the which ye know so much. And I said unto him: What am I that I should tempt God (3) to show unto thee a sign in the thing which thou knowest to be true? Yet thou wilt deny it, because thou art of the devil. Nevertheless, not my will be done; but if God shall smite thee, let that be a sign unto thee that he has power, both in heaven and in earth; and also, that Christ shall come. And thy will, O Lord, be done, and not mine ... And it came to pass that on the morrow the multitude were gathered together; and he spake plainly unto them and denied the things which he had taught them, and confessed the Christ (1), and the power of the Holy Ghost (2), and the ministering of angels. And he spake plainly unto them, that he had been deceived by the power of the devil. And he spake of hell, and of eternity, and of eternal punishment. And he said: I fear lest I have committed the unpardonable sin, for I have lied unto God (3); for I denied the Christ, and said that I believed the scriptures; and they truly testify of him. And because I have thus lied unto God I greatly fear lest my case shall be awful; but I confess unto God.
(14) WoM 1:7-8 And I do this for a wise purpose; for thus it whispereth me, according to the workings of the Spirit (1) of the Lord which is in me. And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come; wherefore, he worketh in me to do according to his will. And my prayer to God (2) is concerning my brethren, that they may once again come to the knowledge of God, yea, the redemption of Christ (3); that they may once again be a delightsome people.
(15) Mosi 3:19 For the natural man is an enemy to God (1), and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit (2), and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ (3) the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.
(16) Mosi 4:3 And it came to pass that after they had spoken these words the Spirit (1) of the Lord (2) came upon them, and they were filled with joy, having received a remission of their sins, and having peace of conscience, because of the exceeding faith which they had in Jesus Christ (3) who should come, according to the words which king Benjamin had spoken unto them.
(17) Mosi 15:5 And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit (1), or the Son (2) to the Father (3), being one God, suffereth temptation, and yieldeth not to the temptation, but suffereth himself to be mocked, and scourged, and cast out, and disowned by his people.
(18) Mosi 18:13 And when he had said these words, the Spirit (1) of the Lord was upon him, and he said: Helam, I baptize thee, having authority from the Almighty God (2), as a testimony that ye have entered into a covenant to serve him until you are dead as to the mortal body; and may the Spirit of the Lord be poured out upon you; and may he grant unto you eternal life, through the redemption of Christ (3), whom he has prepared from the foundation of the world.
(19) Mosi 25:23-24 And now there were seven churches in the land of Zarahemla. And it came to pass that whosoever were desirous to take upon them the name of Christ (1), or of God (2), they did join the churches of God; And they were called the people of God. And the Lord did pour out his Spirit (3) upon them, and they were blessed, and prospered in the land.
(20) Alma 4:14-15 Looking forward to that day, thus retaining a remission of their sins; being filled with great joy because of the resurrection of the dead, according to the will and power and deliverance of Jesus Christ (1) from the bands of death. And now it came to pass that Alma, having seen the afflictions of the humble followers of God (2), and the persecutions which were heaped upon them by the remainder of his people, and seeing all their inequality, began to be very sorrowful; nevertheless the Spirit (3) of the Lord did not fail him.
(21) Alma 5:47-48,50 And moreover, I say unto you that it has thus been revealed unto me, that the words which have been spoken by our fathers are true, even so according to the spirit of prophecy which is in me, which is also by the manifestation of the Spirit (1) of God. I say unto you, that I know of myself that whatsoever I shall say unto you, concerning that which is to come, is true; and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus Christ (2) shall come, yea, the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father (3), full of grace, and mercy, and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh to take away the sins of the world, yea, the sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on his name ... Yea, thus saith the Spirit (1): Repent, all ye ends of the earth, for the kingdom of heaven is soon at hand; yea, the Son (2) of God (3) cometh in his glory, in his might, majesty, power, and dominion. Yea, my beloved brethren, I say unto you, that the Spirit saith: Behold the glory of the King of all the earth; and also the King of heaven shall very soon shine forth among all the children of men.
(22) Alma 7:9-10,13-14 But behold, the Spirit (1) hath said this much unto me, saying: Cry unto this people, saying--Repent ye, and prepare the way of the Lord, and walk in his paths, which are straight; for behold, the kingdom of heaven is at hand, and the Son (2) of God (3) cometh upon the face of the earth. And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost (1), and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son (2) of God (3) ... Now the Spirit (1) knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son (2) of God (3) suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me. Now I say unto you that ye must repent, and be born again; for the Spirit (1) saith if ye are not born again ye cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore come and be baptized unto repentance, that ye may be washed from your sins, that ye may have faith on the Lamb (2) of God (3), who taketh away the sins of the world, who is mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness.
(23) Alma 11:44 Now, this restoration shall come to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked and the righteous; and even there shall not so much as a hair of their heads be lost; but every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son (1), and God the Father (2), and the Holy Spirit (3), which is one Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.
(24) Alma 13:11-12 Therefore they were called after this holy order, and were sanctified, and their garments were washed white through the blood of the Lamb (1). Now they, after being sanctified by the Holy Ghost (2), having their garments made white, being pure and spotless before God (3), could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence; and there were many, exceedingly great many, who were made pure and entered into the rest of the Lord their God.
(25) Alma 19:12-13 And it came to pass that he arose, according to the words of Ammon; and as he arose, he stretched forth his hand unto the woman, and said: Blessed be the name of God (1), and blessed art thou. For as sure as thou livest, behold, I have seen my Redeemer (2); and he shall come forth, and be born of a woman, and he shall redeem all mankind who believe on his name. Now, when he had said these words, his heart was swollen within him, and he sunk again with joy; and the queen also sunk down, being overpowered by the Spirit (3).
(26) Alma 22:14-15 And since man had fallen he could not merit anything of himself; but the sufferings and death of Christ (1) atone for their sins, through faith and repentance, and so forth; and that he breaketh the bands of death, that the grave shall have no victory, and that the sting of death should be swallowed up in the hopes of glory; and Aaron did expound all these things unto the king. And it came to pass that after Aaron had expounded these things unto him, the king said: What shall I do that I may have this eternal life of which thou hast spoken? Yea, what shall I do that I may be born of God (2), having this wicked spirit rooted out of my breast, and receive his Spirit (3), that I may be filled with joy, that I may not be cast off at the last day? Behold, said he, I will give up all that I possess, yea, I will forsake my kingdom, that I may receive this great joy.
(27) Alma 34:38 That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost (1), but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ (2); that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God (3), in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you.
(28) Alma 61:14-15 Therefore, my beloved brother, Moroni, let us resist evil, and whatsoever evil we cannot resist with our words, yea, such as rebellions and dissensions, let us resist them with our swords, that we may retain our freedom, that we may rejoice in the great privilege of our church, and in the cause of our Redeemer (1) and our God (2). Therefore, come unto me speedily with a few of your men, and leave the remainder in the charge of Lehi and Teancum; give unto them power to conduct the war in that part of the land, according to the Spirit (3) of God, which is also the Spirit of freedom which is in them.
(29) 3 Ne 7:21 And it came to pass that the thirty and first year did pass away, and there were but few who were converted unto the Lord; but as many as were converted did truly signify unto the people that they had been visited by the power and Spirit (1) of God (2), which was in Jesus Christ (3), in whom they believed.
(30) 3 Ne 9:20-22 And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I [Jesus] (1) baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost (2), even as the Lamanites, because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not. Behold, I have come unto the world to bring redemption unto the world, to save the world from sin. Therefore, whoso repenteth and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of God (3). Behold, for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up again; therefore repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved.
(31) 3 Ne 11:25,32,35-36 Having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father (1), and of the Son (2), and of the Holy Ghost (3). Amen ... And this is my doctrine, and it is the doctrine which the Father hath given unto me; and I [Jesus] (1) bear record of the Father (2), and the Father beareth record of me, and the Holy Ghost (3) beareth record of the Father and me; and I bear record that the Father commandeth all men, everywhere, to repent and believe in me ... Verily, verily, I [Jesus] (1) say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and I bear record of it from the Father (2) ; and whoso believeth in me believeth in the Father also; and unto him will the Father bear record of me, for he will visit him with fire and with the Holy Ghost (3). And thus will the Father (1) bear record of me (2), and the Holy Ghost (3) will bear record unto him of the Father and me; for the Father (1), and I (2), and the Holy Ghost (3) are one.
(32) 3 Ne 16:4,6 And I [Jesus](1) command you that ye shall write these sayings after I am gone, that if it so be that my people at Jerusalem, they who have seen me and been with me in my ministry, do not ask the Father (2) in my name, that they may receive a knowledge of you by the Holy Ghost (3), and also of the other tribes whom they know not of, that these sayings which ye shall write shall be kept and shall be manifested unto the Gentiles, that through the fulness of the Gentiles, the remnant of their seed, who shall be scattered forth upon the face of the earth because of their unbelief, may be brought in, or may be brought to a knowledge of me, their Redeemer ... And blessed are the Gentiles, because of their belief in me (1), in and of the Holy Ghost (2), which witnesses unto them of me and of the Father (3).
(33) 3 Ne 18:11 And this shall ye always do to those who repent and are baptized in my name; (1) and ye shall do it in remembrance of my blood, which I have shed for you, that ye may witness unto the Father (2) that ye do always remember me. And if ye do always remember me ye shall have my Spirit (3) to be with you.
(34) 3 Ne 19:20-22 Father (1), I [Jesus] (2) thank thee that thou hast given the Holy Ghost (3) unto these whom I have chosen; and it is because of their belief in me that I have chosen them out of the world. Father (1), I (2) pray thee that thou wilt give the Holy Ghost (3) unto all them that shall believe in their words. Father (1), thou hast given them the Holy Ghost (2) because they believe in me (3); and thou seest that they believe in me because thou hearest them, and they pray unto me; and they pray unto me because I am with them.
(35) 3 Ne 20:9-10,27 Now, when the multitude had all eaten and drunk, behold, they were filled with the Spirit (1); and they did cry out with one voice, and gave glory to Jesus (2), whom they both saw and heard. And it came to pass that when they had all given glory unto Jesus, he said unto them: Behold now I finish the commandment which the Father (3) hath commanded me concerning this people, who are a remnant of the house of Israel ... And after that ye were blessed then fulfilleth the Father (1) the covenant which he made with Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed--unto the pouring out of the Holy Ghost (2) through me [Jesus](3) upon the Gentiles, which blessing upon the Gentiles shall make them mighty above all, unto the scattering of my people, O house of Israel.
(36) 3 Ne 21:2 And behold, this is the thing which I [Jesus](1) will give unto you for a sign--for verily I say unto you that when these things which I declare unto you, and which I shall declare unto you hereafter of myself, and by the power of the Holy Ghost (2) which shall be given unto you of the Father (3), shall be made known unto the Gentiles that they may know concerning this people who are a remnant of the house of Jacob, and concerning this my people who shall be scattered by them.
(37) 3 Ne 28:11 And the Holy Ghost (1) beareth record of the Father (2) and me [Jesus](3); and the Father (1) giveth the Holy Ghost (2) unto the children of men, because of me (3).
(38) Morm 1:14-16 And there were no gifts from the Lord, and the Holy Ghost (1) did not come upon any, because of their wickedness and unbelief. And I, being fifteen years of age and being somewhat of a sober mind, therefore I was visited of the Lord, and tasted and knew of the goodness of Jesus (2). And I did endeavor to preach unto this people, but my mouth was shut, and I was forbidden that I should preach unto them; for behold they had wilfully rebelled against their God (3); and the beloved disciples were taken away out of the land, because of their iniquity.
(39) Morm 5:16 For behold, the Spirit (1) of the Lord hath already ceased to strive with their fathers; and they are without Christ (2) and God (3) in the world; and they are driven about as chaff before the wind.
(40) Morm 7:7,9-10 And he hath brought to pass the redemption of the world, whereby he that is found guiltless before him at the judgment day hath it given unto him to dwell in the presence of God in his kingdom, to sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above, unto the Father (1), and unto the Son (2), and unto the Holy Ghost (3), which are one God, in a state of happiness which hath no end ... For behold, this is written for the intent that ye may believe that; and if ye believe that ye will believe this also; and if ye believe this ye will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God (1) among them. And ye will also know that ye are a remnant of the seed of Jacob; therefore ye are numbered among the people of the first covenant; and if it so be that ye believe in Christ (2), and are baptized, first with water, then with fire and with the Holy Ghost (3), following the example of our Savior, according to that which he hath commanded us, it shall be well with you in the day of judgment. Amen.
(41) Eth 5:4 And in the mouth of three witnesses shall these things be established; and the testimony of three, and this work, in the which shall be shown forth the power of God and also his word, of which the Father (1), and the Son (2), and the Holy Ghost (3) bear record--and all this shall stand as a testimony against the world at the last day.
(42) Eth 12:41 And now, I would commend you to seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God the Father (1), and also the Lord Jesus Christ (2), and the Holy Ghost (3), which beareth record of them, may be and abide in you forever. Amen.
(43) Moro 3:3-4 In the name of Jesus Christ (1) I ordain you to be a priest, (or, if he be a teacher) I ordain you to be a teacher, to preach repentance and remission of sins through Jesus Christ, by the endurance of faith on his name to the end. Amen. And after this manner did they ordain priests and teachers, according to the gifts and callings of God (2) unto men; and they ordained them by the power of the Holy Ghost (3), which was in them.
(44) Moro 4:3 O God, the Eternal Father (1), we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ (2), to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it; that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him, and keep his commandments which he hath given them, that they may always have his Spirit (3) to be with them. Amen.
(45) Moro 5:2 O God, the Eternal Father (1), we ask thee, in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ (2), to bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of all those who drink of it, that they may do it in remembrance of the blood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they do always remember him, that they may have his Spirit (3) to be with them. Amen.
(46) Moro 6:4 And after they had been received unto baptism, and were wrought upon and cleansed by the power of the Holy Ghost (1), they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ (2); and their names were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God (3), to keep them in the right way, to keep them continually watchful unto prayer, relying alone upon the merits of Christ, who was the author and the finisher of their faith.
(47) Moro 7:32,44 And by so doing, the Lord God (1) prepareth the way that the residue of men may have faith in Christ (2), that the Holy Ghost (3) may have place in their hearts, according to the power thereof; and after this manner bringeth to pass the Father, the covenants which he hath made unto the children of men ... If so, his faith and hope is vain, for none is acceptable before God (1), save the meek and lowly in heart; and if a man be meek and lowly in heart, and confesses by the power of the Holy Ghost (2) that Jesus is the Christ (3), he must needs have charity; for if he have not charity he is nothing; wherefore he must needs have charity.
(48) Moro 8:7-9,23 For immediately after I had learned these things of you I inquired of the Lord concerning the matter. And the word of the Lord (1) came to me by the power of the Holy Ghost (2), saying: Listen to the words of Christ (3), your Redeemer, your Lord and your God. Behold, I came into the world not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance; the whole need no physician, but they that are sick; wherefore, little children are whole, for they are not capable of committing sin; wherefore the curse of Adam is taken from them in me, that it hath no power over them; and the law of circumcision is done away in me [Jesus](1). And after this manner did the Holy Ghost (2) manifest the word of God (3) unto me; wherefore, my beloved son, I know that it is solemn mockery before God, that ye should baptize little children ... But it is mockery before God (1), denying the mercies of Christ (2), and the power of his Holy Spirit (3), and putting trust in dead works.
(49) Moro 10:4,6-7 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father (1), in the name of Christ (2), if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost (3) ... And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ (1), but acknowledgeth that he is. And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost (2); wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God (3); for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.
(50) D&C 6:15-21 Behold, thou knowest that thou hast inquired of me and I did enlighten thy mind; and now I tell thee these things that thou mayest know that thou hast been enlightened by the Spirit of truth (1); Yea, I tell thee, that thou mayest know that there is none else save God (2) that knowest thy thoughts and the intents of thy heart. I tell thee these things as a witness unto thee--that the words or the work which thou hast been writing are true. Therefore be diligent; stand by my servant Joseph, faithfully, in whatsoever difficult circumstances he may be for the word's sake. Admonish him in his faults, and also receive admonition of him. Be patient; be sober; be temperate; have patience, faith, hope and charity. Behold, thou art Oliver, and I have spoken unto thee because of thy desires; therefore treasure up these words in thy heart. Be faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, and I will encircle thee in the arms of my love. Behold, I am Jesus Christ (3), the Son of God. I am the same that came unto mine own, and mine own received me not. I am the light which shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not.
(51) D&C 14:7-9 And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God. And it shall come to pass, that if you shall ask the Father (1) in my name, in faith believing, you shall receive the Holy Ghost (2), which giveth utterance, that you may stand as a witness of the things of which you shall both hear and see, and also that you may declare repentance unto this generation. Behold, I am Jesus Christ (3), the Son of the living God, who created the heavens and the earth, a light which cannot be hid in darkness.
(52) D&C 18:32-33 And, behold, you are they who are ordained of me to ordain priests and teachers; to declare my gospel, according to the power of the Holy Ghost (1) which is in you, and according to the callings and gifts of God (2) unto men; And I, Jesus Christ (3), your Lord and your God, have spoken it.
(53) D&C 19:23-24 Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit (1) and you shall have peace in me. I am Jesus Christ (2); I came by the will of the Father (3), and I do his will.
(54) D&C 20:27-28,37,59-60,73,77,79 As well as those who should come after, who should believe in the gifts and callings of God by the Holy Ghost (1), which beareth record of the Father (2) and of the Son (3); Which Father (1), Son (2), and Holy Ghost (3) are one God, infinite and eternal, without end. Amen ... And again, by way of commandment to the church concerning the manner of baptism--All those who humble themselves before God (1), and desire to be baptized, and come forth with broken hearts and contrite spirits, and witness before the church that they have truly repented of all their sins, and are willing to take upon them the name of Jesus Christ (2), having a determination to serve him to the end, and truly manifest by their works that they have received of the Spirit (3) of Christ unto the remission of their sins, shall be received by baptism into his church ... They are, however, to warn, expound, exhort, and teach, and invite all to come unto Christ (1). Every elder, priest, teacher, or deacon is to be ordained according to the gifts and callings of God (2) unto him; and he is to be ordained by the power of the Holy Ghost (3), which is in the one who ordains him ... The person who is called of God and has authority from Jesus Christ to baptize, shall go down into the water with the person who has presented himself or herself for baptism, and shall say, calling him or her by name: Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father (1), and of the Son (2), and of the Holy Ghost (3). Amen ... O God, the Eternal Father (1), we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ (2), to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it, that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him and keep his commandments which he has given them; that they may always have his Spirit (3) to be with them. Amen ... O God, the Eternal Father (1), we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ (2), to bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of all those who drink of it, that they may do it in remembrance of the blood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they do always remember him, that they may have his Spirit (3) to be with them. Amen.
(55) D&C 21:1-2 Behold, there shall be a record kept among you; and in it thou shalt be called a seer, a translator, a prophet, an apostle of Jesus Christ, an elder of the church through the will of God the Father (1), and the grace of your Lord Jesus Christ (2), Being inspired of the Holy Ghost (3) to lay the foundation thereof, and to build it up unto the most holy faith.
(56) D&C 24:5 And thou shalt continue in calling upon God (1) in my name (2), and writing the things which shall be given thee by the Comforter (3), and expounding all scriptures unto the church.
(57) D&C 42:17 For, behold, the Comforter (1) knoweth all things, and beareth record of the Father (2) and of the Son (3).
(58) D&C 46:13,30-31 To some it is given by the Holy Ghost (1) to know that Jesus Christ (2) is the Son of God (3), and that he was crucified for the sins of the world ... He that asketh in the Spirit (1) asketh according to the will of God (2); wherefore it is done even as he asketh. And again, I say unto you, all things must be done in the name of Christ (3), whatsoever you do in the Spirit.
(59) D&C 49:13-15 Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (1), according to the holy commandment, for the remission of sins; And whoso doeth this shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (2), by the laying on of the hands of the elders of the church. And again, verily I say unto you, that whoso forbiddeth to marry is not ordained of God (3), for marriage is ordained of God unto man.
(60) D&C 50:27 Wherefore, he is possessor of all things; for all things are subject unto him, both in heaven and on the earth, the life and the light, the Spirit (1) and the power, sent forth by the will of the Father (2) through Jesus Christ, his Son (3).
(61) D&C 55:2-3 And then thou shalt be ordained by the hand of my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., to be an elder unto this church, to preach repentance and remission of sins by way of baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son (1) of the living God (2). And on whomsoever you shall lay your hands, if they are contrite before me, you shall have power to give the Holy Spirit (3).
(62) D&C 68:4-8,25 And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost (1) shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation. Behold, this is the promise of the Lord unto you, O ye my servants. Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you: and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ (2), that I am the Son of the living God (3), that I was, that I am, and that I am to come. This is the word of the Lord unto you, my servant Orson Hyde, and also unto my servant Luke Johnson, and unto my servant Lyman Johnson, and unto my servant William E. McLellin, and unto all the faithful elders of my church- Go ye into all the world, preach the gospel to every creature, acting in the authority which I have given you, baptizing in the name of the Father (1), and of the Son (2), and of the Holy Ghost (3) ... And again, inasmuch as parents have children in Zion, or in any of her stakes which are organized, that teach them not to understand the doctrine of repentance, faith in Christ the Son (1) of the living God (2), and of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost (3) by the laying on of the hands, when eight years old, the sin be upon the heads of the parents.
(63) D&C 76:11-13,28,35,51-53,79-80,112-113,118-119 We, Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon, being in the Spirit on the sixteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-two- By the power of the Spirit (1) our eyes were opened and our understandings were enlightened, so as to see and understand the things of God- Even those things which were from the beginning before the world was, which were ordained of the Father (2), through his Only Begotten Son (3), who was in the bosom of the Father, even from the beginning ... And while we were yet in the Spirit (1), the Lord commanded us that we should write the vision; for we beheld Satan, that old serpent, even the devil, who rebelled against God (2), and sought to take the kingdom of our God and his Christ (3) ... Having denied the Holy Spirit (1) after having received it, and having denied the Only Begotten Son (2) of the Father (3) , having crucified him unto themselves and put him to an open shame ... They are they who received the testimony of Jesus (1), and believed on his name and were baptized after the manner of his burial, being buried in the water in his name, and this according to the commandment which he has given--That by keeping the commandments they might be washed and cleansed from all their sins, and receive the Holy Spirit (2) by the laying on of the hands of him who is ordained and sealed unto this power; And who overcome by faith, and are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, which the Father (3) sheds forth upon all those who are just and true ... These are they who are not valiant in the testimony of Jesus (1); wherefore, they obtain not the crown over the kingdom of our God (2). And now this is the end of the vision which we saw of the terrestrial, that the Lord commanded us to write while we were yet in the Spirit (3) ... And they shall be servants of the Most High; but where God (1) and Christ (2) dwell they cannot come, worlds without end. This is the end of the vision which we saw, which we were commanded to write while we were yet in the Spirit (3) ... That through the power and manifestation of the Spirit (1), while in the flesh, they may be able to bear his presence in the world of glory. And to God (2) and the Lamb (3) be glory, and honor, and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
(64) D&C 84:44-47,74 For you shall live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God. For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ (1). And the Spirit (2) giveth light to every man that cometh into the world; and the Spirit enlighteneth every man through the world, that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit. And every one that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit cometh unto God, even the Father (3) ... Verily, verily, I say unto you, they who believe not on your words, and are not baptized in water in my name, for the remission of their sins, that they may receive the Holy Ghost (1), shall be damned, and shall not come into my Father's kingdom where my Father (2) and I [Jesus](3) am.
(65) D&C 88:3-5 Wherefore, I now send upon you another Comforter (1), even upon you my friends, that it may abide in your hearts, even the Holy Spirit of promise; which other Comforter is the same that I promised unto my disciples, as is recorded in the testimony of John. This Comforter is the promise which I give unto you of eternal life, even the glory of the celestial kingdom; Which glory is that of the church of the Firstborn, even of God (2), the holiest of all, through Jesus Christ his Son (3).
(66) D&C 93:15 And I, John, bear record, and lo, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Ghost (1) descended upon him in the form of a dove, and sat upon him, and there came a voice out of heaven (2) saying: This is my beloved Son (3).
(67) D&C 109:79 And also this church, to put upon it thy name. And help us by the power of thy Spirit (1), that we may mingle our voices with those bright, shining seraphs around thy throne, with acclamations of praise, singing Hosanna to God (2) and the Lamb! (3)
(68) D&C 121:26-29 God (1) shall give unto you knowledge by his Holy Spirit, yea, by the unspeakable gift of the Holy Ghost (2), that has not been revealed since the world was until now; Which our forefathers have awaited with anxious expectation to be revealed in the last times, which their minds were pointed to by the angels, as held in reserve for the fulness of their glory; A time to come in the which nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods, they shall be manifest. All thrones and dominions, principalities and powers, shall be revealed and set forth upon all who have endured valiantly for the gospel of Jesus Christ (3).
(69) D&C 130:22 The Father (1) has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's; the Son (2) also; but the Holy Ghost (3) has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.
(70) D&C 138:11-13,33-35 As I pondered over these things which are written, the eyes of my understanding were opened, and the Spirit (1) of the Lord rested upon me, and I saw the hosts of the dead, both small and great. And there were gathered together in one place an innumerable company of the spirits of the just, who had been faithful in the testimony of Jesus (2) while they lived in mortality; And who had offered sacrifice in the similitude of the great sacrifice of the Son of God (3), and had suffered tribulation in their Redeemer's name ... These were taught faith in God (1), repentance from sin, vicarious baptism for the remission of sins, the gift of the Holy Ghost (2) by the laying on of hands. And all other principles of the gospel that were necessary for them to know in order to qualify themselves that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. And so it was made known among the dead, both small and great, the unrighteous as well and the faithful, that redemption had been wrought through the sacrifice of the Son (3) of God upon the cross.
(71) Mos 5:9 And in that day the Holy Ghost (1) fell upon Adam, which beareth record of the Father (2) and the Son (3), saying: I am the Only Begotten of the Father from the beginning, henceforth and forever, that as thou hast fallen thou mayest be redeemed, and all mankind, even as many as will.
(72) Mos 6:51-52,66 And he called upon our father Adam by his own voice, saying: I am God (1); I made the world, and men before they were in the flesh. And he also said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me, and hearken unto my voice, and believe, and repent of all thy transgressions, and be baptized, even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth, which is Jesus Christ (2), the only name which shall be given under heaven, whereby salvation shall come unto the children of men, ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (3), asking all things in his name, and whatsoever ye shall ask, it shall be given you ... And he heard a voice out of heaven, saying: Thou art baptized with fire, and with the Holy Ghost (1). This is the record of the Father (2), and the Son (3), from henceforth and forever.
(73) Mos 7:11,27 And he gave unto me a commandment that I should baptize in the name of the Father (1), and of the Son (2), which is full of grace and truth, and of the Holy Ghost (3), which beareth record of the Father and the Son ... And Enoch beheld angels descending out of heaven, bearing testimony of the Father (1) and Son (2); and the Holy Ghost (3) fell on many, and they were caught up by the powers of heaven into Zion.
(74) Mos 8:24 Believe and repent of your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (1), the Son of God (2), even as our fathers, and ye shall receive the Holy Ghost (3), that ye may have all things made manifest; and if ye do not this, the floods will come in upon you; nevertheless they hearkened not.
(75) A of F 1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father (1), and in His Son, Jesus Christ (2), and in the Holy Ghost (3).
It isn’t possible to deny a Triad of the Godhead or some kind of “Trinity” in the NT, which occurs at least 92 times in 65 chapters; or in the Latter-day Scriptures which occurs at least 124 times in 75 chapters with 79 times in 49 chapters from the Book of Mormon. Those who insist only the Father is God and Jesus and the Holy Ghost aren’t, should examine the referenced passages carefully since the repeated emphasis on the “threeness” always comprising the Father, Son and Holy Ghost with the absence of clear “ontological inferiority”passages makes any ontological superiority of the Father over the Son and Holy Ghost extremely remote.
Why this repeated emphasis on “Father, Son and Holy Ghost” or “Jesus Christ, Spirit and God”? Why are they repeatedly mentioned in close proximity to each other? If they aren’t equal in nature and Jesus and the Holy Ghost don’t share the Father’s Godhood; why are they always lumped together? Why the singular “name” in reference to the three in Matt 28:19? If there is no such self-aware being known as the Holy Ghost, why is he always associated with the Father and the Son? Does it make sense to lump an ontologically different item with two which are identical? (“Matt, Harry, car” “car, Harry, Matt” “Harry, car, Matt”) and do it nearly a hundred times in the NT?
There really can’t be any doubt there is a Triad of the Godhead found within the NT and the Latter-day Scriptures and the NT doesn’t teach a deity comprised of only the Father. This is as easy to determine as counting 1,2,3. How these three are one are examined in MORMONISM: Section 4.
