PART THREE: JESUS AND JEHOVAH
Are They the Same?
The dominant figure of the OT was Jehovah (YHWH) and the dominant figure of the NT was Jesus Christ.
Jesus was frequently identified as the “Son of God” which was understood by his contemporary Jews to mean he was the “Son of Jehovah” since they viewed “God” to be “Jehovah.”
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints view Jesus to be the being known as “Jehovah” during the OT era.
This may seem contradictory to him being the “Son of God (i.e. the Son of Jehovah) but it really isn’t.
This study will demonstrate Jesus is the “Son of Jehovah” and he is “Jehovah” in the same manner he is the “Son of God” and “God.”
Insisting Jesus is the “Son of God” but not “God” contradicts what is clearly taught in the NT. Insisting he is “God” but not the “Son of God” contradicts the Scriptures as well. By the same token, any insistence Jesus is the “Son of Jehovah” but not “Jehovah” conflicts with the Bible and any claim he’s “Jehovah” but not the “Son of Jehovah” contradicts it as well.
The Bible must be taken as a whole since errors arise when a selective approach is done to determine its teachings. We can’t pick and choose which biblical passage to accept in determining the Bible’s teaching.
We, as members of the LDS church are obligated to accept the Truth. According to the Scriptures:
 Jesus is God.
Jesus is the Son of God.
 Jesus is Jehovah.
Jesus is the Son of Jehovah.
The Bible describes Jesus as “Jehovah” but also views him to be the “Son of Jehovah.”
Insisting Jesus is “Jehovah” and not the “Son of Jehovah” is like claiming Jesus is “God” but not the “Son of God.”
Similarly, insisting Jesus is the “Son of Jehovah” and not “Jehovah” is like insisting he is the “Son of God” but not “God.” Both positions contradict what the Scriptures say.
Jesus Christ = “God” (nature) and “Son of God (person).
Heavenly Father = “Jehovah” (nature) and “Father of Jehovah” (person) [despite such a term is absent].
Either of them can be called “Jehovah Elohim” or “LORD God.”
