Catherine Malfitano has been the winner of the George London Award in 1974. Today she is on the Honorary Board of the George London Foundation for Singers Inc.

About George London she says: "Long before our first meeting I had heard, of course, what a formidable singing actor George London was. That meeting occured backstage, after I had sung in a competition. What I discovered that day, and on subsequent occasions, was a man of rare understanding, compassion and wisdom, all of which he imparted to people he came in contact with. He told me from the start that he recognized in me a quality which he thought we had in common and which he called our "danger zone," namely that part of performing where a singer goes to the utmost depth to explore the music and the text. But he warned: "Only go that adventuresome route after you have acquired a rock-solid technique; otherwise you sing on vocal capital instead of interest." A wisdom and advice for the ages!"
