Since 1728, our family has resided on different estates in Strass.
In 1728, Johann Georg Harder, landlord son from Unterfahlheim married the daughter of the landlord Philipp Clement.
For three generations our family remained in Strass owning a restaurant, before the family lost the restaurant through the death of Petrus Harder.
A further family line branches off with the second son of Johann Georg Harder who resided first in Bühl where in 1788 he buys the mill in Remmeltshofen, on which until today, this branch of the family resides.
From there in 1819 Joseph Sebastian Harder come to Strass, where he bought the mill, which had gone into bankruptcy in 1818. Thus the circle of my family closes again in Strass, in which we have held the mill continuously since 1819.
From the small farmer´s mill with five milling cycles and approximately 30 hectares of fields, meadows and forest, in the course of the time, by sharing of the inheritance and obligatory land transfer for military purposes (Strass army ammunition depot) became a small, modern enterprise, which today converts daily up to 15 tons of grain to flour. The mill also has 14 hectares of land for agricultural purposes.
I began the study of my family in 1993. If one grows up in a steeped in tradition family business, sometimes the question also emerges, why we are actually millers and one begins to look in the past. What first, after a temporary look, grows with each new discovery of unknown ancestors, and each ancestor discovered nevertheless raises also again two new questions - who were parents of the found ancestor ?
Thus with many mosaic stones slowly a picture, knowing it will never be finished, one also learns respect and attention for the inheritance of the passed generations.
In the course of my preliminary research, I entered the church records of the "St. John Baptism" church until 1913 in my computer, and I hope I can one day publish, togehter with Mr. Anton Aubele, a local kinship book of Strass.
If you should find in my family pages connections to your ancestors, or need even more information about the families of Strass, I am pleased about one
