In all of these, we find a common factor:
The aboundant Grace of God meeting with men's poverty
and helplessness.
This section of short stories in fact started in 4:31-44. All these stories
revealed in a positive way, divine power, visiting the earth in grace.
This section finishes in 5:33 and is followed is a contrast with Judaism.
Judaism represents all the religion system of this world.
Beginning in chap 4, we see the power of the Lord manifesting (introducing)
Himself, OVERCOMING ALL THE POWER OF THE ENEMY, in sickness or possession.
The power of the enemy is there, Jesus casts it out.
But beginning in Chap 5 , his power and grace BROUGHT SOULS INTO CONNECTION
WITH GOD.
Peter' s calling: Luke 5:1-12
Jesus came for men. He associated with them and called them in his work.
It took a miracle to strike Peter to realize who Jesus was. It stroke his
conscience, he confesses his unworthiness.
It was grace who met Peter.
The cleansing of the leper: 5:12-16
He was there with the will and the power to heal this outcast leper who
was a figure of sin and incurable.
"I will, be thou clean"
The paralytic healed and forgiven: 5:17-26
Grace brings pardon as well as healing. He gives a proof of that by removing
all infirmity.
It was not the doctrine of pardon the pharisees opposed. They believed
it. But that God intervened and that pardon was present.
Fulfillment of Ps 103:3
The calling of Matthew: 5:27-32
The Lord revealed the character of his grace.
Human circumstances do not hinder it.
He acts in virtue of human need, and not to human privileges.
The pharisees and the scribes would not have the Lord associate with the
wicked and disreputable.
God seeks those who needs him - sinners in need of grace.
