Troop 565 was chartered in February 1993, and is hosted by "Lord of Love" Lutheran Church. Our purpose is to promote citizenship, develop character, increase physical/ mental fitness and provide moral and religious leadership to the boys entrusted to us.
Troop meetings are held on Thursday nights, at the church, beginning at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 8:15 p.m. It is important that all scouts attend weekly troop meetings, campouts and special events. Troop meetings provide programs on Scouting skills, merit badges and other specific information.
Campouts are for developing individual camping skills. They are generally scheduled for each month of the year. Camporees are held in April, October, and January with other troops in our District. Summer camp is held at Camp Cedars in Fremont, Ne. during June. Those scouts, first class and above, may also attend another summer camp held out of state. The location to be determined by the Scoutmaster and other leaders. Troop Patrols are the foundation of the troop. A patrol consists of up to eight boys, who work, play and learn together. The boys elect their own leader and he selects his assistant. Leadership positions are rotated by election every 6 months.
Scouts will meet with the Scoutmaster to develop a personal growth agreement. He will ask each scout to set a goal in Scouting. Before advancing in rank, a scout will have a conference with the Scoutmaster and a board of review by the Troop Committee. Participation in troop events, leadership roles, service projects, time in rank and Scout spirit will be required for rank advancement.
Parents are expected to attend Courts of Honor with their son. This is a special event that is held quarterly to honor those Scouts who are advancing in rank or receiving merit badges or other special recognition. We ask that each parent participate in the troop in some way. For many, this includes service as an Assistant Scoutmaster or as a member of one of the troop's committees. Parent participation as a counselor for one or more merit badges is also encouraged.
The Scoutmaster is an advisor who is present at troop meetings and goes hiking and camping with the troop. Assistant Scoutmasters are also available to help each scout. The Senior Patrol Leader runs the troop meetings and the Patrol Leaders Council meetings. The Patrol Leaders Council plans the troop's program. The Troop Committee, is a group of parents and other volunteer Scouts, who are responsible for giving support to the troop leaders.
