Well, early on it appeared we could win Saturday. That sack for the safety was awesome! Loved it. Then. . .bring on the offensive ineptness. . . (even when Bulger was in)!
Our offense produced 3 lousy points! The second safety was a gift fron the SU long snapper. The real killer was the fumble on the goal line. Lewis seemed to be getting in a nice rythym that drive but that took all the wind out of the Mountaineers' sails. I'm not sure if I can totally blame Nehlen for this loss. The fumble was the killer (Coburn or Rego? I forget.) Nehlen even went for it on 4th down a couple of times.
Even though we are supposed to be down this year should we accept the drubbings we're being handed? I think the QB situation now with Bulger out for at least the Navy game puts this year's chances at a winning record in serious jeopardy. Why should we have to suffer a down year? I know it happens to almost everyone. But the BIG BOYS reload NOT rebuild. We all know the shortcomings of recruiting at WVU. . .small state, we get Florida's 4th, 5th level kids, blah blah, blah. We need to find a way of motivating the kids we have to be winners! I know they play hard and they are just kids, but crimony, someone teach em to tackle and play hard the whole game! It ain't like we're playing that tough of a schedule this year! Face it, the Big East is down. . .Miami loses to ECU (I guess that helps Nehlen make our loss to the Pirates more legit.) Now I've started thinking and maybe I'm delusional here, but why not let Marshall in the Big East. They are certainly heads and shoulders above Temple. Rutgers ain't much better if at all. It's a natural fit with us, and they are proving to outgrow the MAC. Crazy? I don't know.
Now I'm rambling so I'll quit.
I still say bring in Richie Rodriguez! NOW (2000) Before it's too late!
