This is a story about John. John was a farmer from Hardy County who, on occassion, got a little wild on the weekends and did some things that were just plain BAD.
Well, poor John met an untimely death, and when he died, he was sent to hell. When he got there the devil told one of his many assistant demons to, of course, make John as uncomfortable and miserable as possible. He said to his demon, "make the temperature 110 degrees and the humidity 90% and put him to work breaking up rocks with a sledge hammer. After a day or so, the devil checked on John and to his surprise, John was happy and smiling as he worked. The devil asked John why he was so happy and John said, "heat like this reminds me of making hay on my farm on a hot summers day with my dad and my brothers...what great memories"
The devil was not happy. He told his demon to turn the heat up to 125 degrees and the humidity to 100%. Again when he checked on John, John was again a happy man. "Why are you so happy?" asked the devil. "this weather reminds me of cleaning out the loft of our old barn in the middle of July, how I loved working on my farm", said John.
The devil, now furious, said to his demon assistant, "if heat doesn't make him miserable, lets do the other extreme...turn the temperature down to 20 below zero with a cold 40 mph wind" When the devil returned the next day, John appeared downright overjoyed. He was singing and smiling and as happy as could be. "How can you be so happy?", asked the devil. "well", said John, "I'm a Mountaineer fan and it's a cold day in hell...Don Nehlen must have retired !!!"
