Dont rule out a visit to your local vital statistics office they may have many documents containing information on the person you are seeking that may assist you in your search.

*Christie adds specifically check for divorce records on someone who has been missing for quit some time in my case I found out the first name of my fathers ex wife and the name given at birth to one of my brothers I didn't even know existed until I requested this document.
If you go to the records dept. and request a divorce record for you missing person spanning over the time frame they have been missing that office will be able to supply you with all divorce records that person has in that state for a fee of course. Mine cost $5.00 a piece.
Also check for marriage records not everyone ends up divorced these days.
