content: Who are you?? How old are you?? Where do you get your information from?? I would be very
curious to know how you obtained this information since it is only as good as it's source. I would
really like to know how you make the connection between the rainforests and McDonald's / Burger
King. I'm not sure if you've ever been to a rainforest, but there are no cows in a rainforest -- none that
I've been to anyway. In case you're worried about the eggs too, there are no chickens there either.

lol, so many questions!
Okay, my name is Ryan, I am currently a college Freshman which would make me 18 years old. I'm in Pennsylvania, USA.
For this webpage I got most of my information from sources I used on my term paper for my senior year of high school project. Here are a list of my works cited.

Wow, no, I've never been to a rainforest. I wish I could visit one, though. And yes, I do believe that there are cows in the rainforest. Not the kind of rainforest you'd think of, but a one in which there used to be vegitation there, but now there is grazing land.
Here, let me cite something for you.
Ack, well, okay, I don't have the quote with me here, but it is on my notecards back home in New Jersey... When I get a chance to go back, I'll get the card, show you the source, and give you the info. I believe it was dealing with the famous McLibel trial where the use of this quote opened up the discussion to the court about McDonalds' connection to the beef industry in the rainforest (mostly South American). There was a statistic about how many tons of beef were imported to Great Britain for consumption from a South American rainforest company called McKeys. If you feel up to it, you can go view the whole transcript of the trial at www.mcspotlight.org and look up "McKeys" or search for it... I don't have the time right now, I have to finish my calculus (ugh...)
Thank you for the input and I'll be interested in hearing back from you on your hunting down those chickens and cows in the rainforests. Could you tell me a little more about your experience there?
Ciao,
-Ryan

content: YOU ARE A COMPLETE AND UTTER IDIOT FOR SAYING THAT THE PREVENTION
OF TEEN SUICIDE (THE YELLOW RIBBON PROJECT)IS LESS IMPORTANT THAN HOW MUCH
WE SHOULD NOT EAT AT Mc DONALDS! YOUR A NUT! YOU NEED TO REALIZE WHATS
GOING ON AROUND YOU AND GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

*blinks*
*looks confused*
*looks at the SANE people reading this.*
I dunno, did you people see anything ANYWHERE on my page that stated that I believed that the yellow ribbon campaign is less important? And I don't mean that one sentance at the top of the page where I was trying to explain why I put the webpage up - I mean something so obvious that I was saying, "I hate the Yellow Ribbon Campaign, I think it's stupid," that would have deserved this type of ranting?
*blinks again*
Okay, first, I want you to go get a glass of water. Go on - I won't let you keep reading until you go. Here, I'll get one for you - *hands you a glass of water*
Here we go....
If you read the entire thing, you may have seen that my page was being mistaken for the Yellow Ribbon campaign. When I was writing the apology to people looking for that campaign, I had a stroke of genius. I'm always looking for ways to get my opinions out there, so I simply placed them on this page that we getting higher traffic. Yes, I did say, "something equally, if not moreso, important - The Environment."
See that "equally" part? Yeah? See the "if not moreso" part? Does that make you think I am blatently against the campaign? Well, I'll leave you to your opinions of my opinions. Here's all I know:
Teen Suicide = a threat to human life, and an utter tragedy when it occurs.
Environmental Health = A bigger scope. Think of it this way: An environment that is not safe to live in because it is so heavily polluted that our species is on the endangered list = we're killing our planet = we're killing where we live with no alternative place to go = worse case scenerio. A really odd way to think of it, but hey, I'm weird.
So you go think about how many people would care about teen suicide when we're more worried about how polluted that glass of water you're drinking is and whether or not two of those glasses may give you cancer. Oh yes, and do have a pleasant day. :)

content: First of all I would like to say that if your going to use up space on the internet for this incorrect
bullshit, get your head out of your ass and start researching your information. It's sad and true what
is happening to the rainforests, but McDonald's & Burger King have VERY little to do with it. I am not
a supporter of either company, in fact, I don't even eat meat -- I'm a vegetarian. But I have grown up in
a farming and ranching community. 78% of the cattle that goes into both fast food chains beef, is
grown and butchered in good old America. Not to mention that 43% is raised right here in the state
that I'm from. I have been to cattle auctions and have seen the type of meat that McDonalds buys
(Burger King buys better quality, but not much). McDonalds will buy the absolute cheapest cattle
available, mostly those that are old, sick and dying from various reasons. The remaining cattle that are
bought are from Europe and Asia. Not the rainforest. The grai!
ns used to feed cattle are grown mostly in Asia, Canada and the US. Not to mention that rainforest soil IS
NOT POOR. It is some of the richest soil available in the world. Oh -- and the comment about birth
control pills coming from Mexican Yam?? Wrong -- Mexican yam is used as a natural birth control
alternative (It is not the "pill") and it has been proven to be a non-medically sound alternative. But
hen again if you had finished your high-school and college education before you spewed all this
bullshit out on public space, you might have known that. Get a life.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, thanks for replying to my webpage. I'm always looking for different views on this.
Second, I ask the same of you - Where did you get your information. Can I get a list of sources from you? I would enjoy reading it, seeing how up to date it is... etc...
Most of the bulleted information came from http://rainforest.care2.com - you can take the yam thing up with them...
And I do believe you are wrong on the point about the soil being poor. Most of the nutrients are in the canopy... Yes, the top layer of soil in the rainforest is very rich in nutrients because most of the dead decomposing matter is broken down within 6 weeks. This is called the *THIN* humus layer. Below this layer lies nothing but soil poor in quality because the uptake of nutrients is so rapid that it is never given the chance to settle down into the lower layers of soil. If you want to check my sources, I'll get it directly out of the Encyclopedia Brittanica for you.
And look at this website - You agree that pbs is a good source of information? Here: http://www.pbs.org/tal/costa_rica/facts.html
Numbers 11, 30, and 31... Check it out.
Oh, and if you're wondering about the 6 species per day? Check out number 15 at that pbs... Oh yes, and thank you for insulting me, I believe that was uncalled for. Did you have to view my page? Did you have to listen to my opinions? By the way, I am no longer in high school thank you very much (graduated 13th in my class, summa cum laude) and am now a Freshman at Lebanon Valley College majoring in Biology. So if you meant to imply that I am an *dumb easterner* than you are wrong... Please do not jump to conclusions. I could rightly say that you are some hick farmer from the midwest or western part of the country - but did I say that? Only for my example. Please write me back about your continued views as I rather enjoy learning new things about the environment.
Ciao,
-Ryan

content: I was wondering where you got your information for what you say on this page, for example this
about the 55 acres of rainforest that disappear... I was just reading a web page that had an official
statement by a McDonalds corporation lawyer that said that their policy is not to use any beef that is
grown on rainforest cleared land. Could you tell me more about this, because I am not sure which to
believe. I myself am a vegetarian, and am just wondering what the truth is.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps they do now only use beef that is not grown on rainforest cleared land. But then again, it's a big corporation, and a lawyer... I dunno, I still wouldn't be willing to believe it just yet...
The 55 acre thing, I believe I got it from http://rainforest.care2.com
They changed the format of their website, so I think it is no longer there, but I can spell it out for you...
I had the stats being a little nicer than this, but...
http://www.expage.com/tropicaltribunebeef
Not a particularly reputative site, but has the same basic info from me, I can scrounge up a video for you to watch - about the guy who was the heir of the Baskin-Robins ice cream company (I think it was him) and how he realized it wasn't good to eat meat. He stated the same facts.
NEW!!!
Here's a website for John Robbins - it's an article some people might want to read.
http://www.bayarea.com/entertainment/column/boer/docs/x08boer_20010808.htm
He talks about the 1,400,000,000 people we could feed if we stopped feeding the livestock and ate the grain they eat. But then again, the stuff they eat is not normally FDA approved for human consumption. It's all genetically modified. 50% of us think we have never eaten something genetically modified - guess what! 2/3 of all grocery store foods are Genetically Modified Organism (GMO). Who wants a tomato with flounder genes in it to keep it from freezing??!?!? I DO I DO!!! *sarcasm*
For every hamburger you eat - 12 pounds of grain must be used to feed the cow.
12 lbs. of grain could produce 8 loaves of bread, or 24 plates of spaghetti.
2,500 gallons are used to make one hamburger.
wow, seems like a lot?
Know the rules of ten?
For every level the plant matter travels through, we get less and less energy from it.
Example:
The sun has 100% energy.
10 percent of the suns energy gets transformed into stored chemical energy.
10 percent of that energy is given to the gazelle that eats the carrot.
Then 10 percent of that goes to the cheetah that eats the gazelle.
And 10 percent of that goes to the lion that eats the cheetah.

By the time the energy gets to the lion, it's already at .01% concentration!
As you go up each level, the animal needs more and more of the substance before it to get the energy equivalent before it.
So wouldn't it be easier just go through one level? Plant to human?
This isn't directed at you, it's more of a general thing...
Thanks for the reply. ;) If you need any further info, just ask. ;)
Ciao,
-Ryan

content: i'm glad taht you feel so strongly about the rain forest. i think i would care a lot more if it had an
instant, direct effect on my life. it doesn't, really, so i'm not to worried about it. and another thing- don't
post that under a yellow ribbon search. as you said, it has nothing to do with it. and maybe you
should go and get yourself a shink and maybe get some help. take an anger management course. i
know i do. you feel better afterwards.

ttyl,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, thanks for the reply,
Second, I'd like to clarify the fact that I never posted my site under the web search engines as the "yellow ribbon campaign" I simply said that many people had told me that they came to my page looking for the yellow ribbon campaign because that's what popped up on their search. When they reached my page, they were disappointed to not find it. In no way is my page intentionally put under that in the searches. And there is no way I can change it.
Well, as for the direct affect issue, that's what my feelings used to be, also. Until I found out exactly what was going on.
Look into my page further, if you have time, I'm going to post your reply up on the page 'o replies, you can see yourself there, and what I sent back to you.
As for the anger management classes, I don't think I need them, I would rather keep my "passionate" love for the environment.
Thanks again,
-Ryan

Hello, first I would like to thank you for visiting my site =)
Second, I would like to let you know that I have many sources for my information. The message board contains my list of sources as well as the replies page. You can find those at these locations:
Message board: http://pluto.beseen.com/boardroom/g/57636
Replies page (check number 14 I think...): http://dunkin256.tripod.com/replies.htm

Just curious, which mirror site of mine did you find? the one at fortunecity.com or tripod.com? The tripod one is updated more frequently and a better format of a page. The main source of the information I got for that particular page, though, was John Vidal's book, McLibel. Check it out, a good read. Anyway, if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. =)
Ciao~

Ryan,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my email so fast. I would just like to tell you that you have an
awsome site and it helped get a good mark on one of my papers. Thanks again your help buddy

Whoa dude... Calm down... Sorry, I don't have MSN messenger, if that's what you're talking about. I hate MSN, I won't use them. If you want to IM me with AIM (Aol sucks too, but they're the lesser of two evils) my screen name is ******* and we can talk about why you think my site is crap. Is it the content? Or is it the design? What don't you like/don't agree with? I've been meaning to update it lately. I wish I had the time. Anyway, please e-mail me back when you get a chance.
-Ryan

Hi there.
I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about. I'm glad you added "my"
original message to the bottom of your email, cos I had no idea what you
were talking about!
It looks to me like someone has filled in your feedback form or whatever
using my addy. I'd never post something like that - if I thought a site was
crap I'd at least give constructive critisim.
I don't even know what your site it.
Sorry about that.

Wow... I'm really sorry about that.... I wonder why someone would enter your e-mail into my feedback form. It must be someone you know, though. Oh well. Thanks for being cordial about it =) Most of the time when someone enters someone else's e-mail into my feedback form, they normally just sit there and yell at me for contacting them. Sorry again.
And also, I'm glad you would give me constructive criticism instead of just saying that my site was stupid. By the way, if you want to take a look at it and see what these people were talking about, go to http://dunkin256.tripod.com/myribbon.htm
It's a controversial issue, but those are just my thoughts on it. Let me know what you think if you have the time. =)
Thanks for your understanding.

And what would you have me believe? that McDonalds is this all loving wonderful company that doesn't do any wrong? I think not. Did you even read over the whole site? Maybe... Did you check my sources? Um, probably not. Did you know that for every 100 cows in a slaughter house run by McDonalds, 5 of them don't have to be "dead" to be skinned alive and dismembered? The source for that is John Robbins' book, "The Food Revoltion". Check it out, chapter 11...
I'll be dedicated to updating that page today, maybe better stats, a better format, and better fonts. I made that thing a year and a half ago and people are *still* e-mailing me about it. Thanks for your feedback though! And the response was quite clever.
