Model Makers Using Old Molds From Other Companies
I have noticed that many of the aircraft models I buy new now are from the same molds and spru layouts that I bought the same kits from other makers in the past. A few examples I have seen are. The Academy model of the Mirage III in 1/48 is the exact kit I bought thirty years ago from Fujimi. The Testors A-6A Intruder in 1/48 is the exact kit I bought from Fujimi again more than thirty years ago. The Airfix EA-6B Prowler kit in 1/48 is the MPC kit I bought in 1984. The Airfix Saab JA37 kit in 1/48 has all the same parts as the early Esci AJ37 and later JA37 kits. Even the instruction sheet and aircraft discription are exactly the same. Anyone want to add to this list not only aircraft but vehicles?

The same thing must be true of many old molds. I have several old Renwal kits in 1/32 from my younger days and bought two of those kits using the same molds from Revell. I am talking about the M47 and the Ontos kits. I sure wish that Revell or someone else would re-issue that Ontos kit. The only place to find an Ontos now is on eBay and the prices are out of sight.

I have several M2 and M2A2 Bradley kits. The M2 kits are from Academy and Tamiya. They seem to come from the same molds but the Tamiya fit together much better especialy around the turret gun. The M2A2 Tamiya kit is a gem but I just bought a M2A2 made by C.C. Lee and it has the same pieces on the same trees. Do these companies cooperate or does one own the other?.

Might interest you to know that the Revell kit of the skf 251 with rocket pods that was around some years ago is the old Nitto kit. The only difference is that the Nitto kit had rubber tread.

Another mold recycle is the old Hawk Banshee kit. Testors re issued it from the same molds with the same decals.

At least Testors lets you know that the A-6A is the old Fujimi kit. They have the Fugimi logo right on the box.

Here is some info for M1 Abrams fans. The Hobby Craft of Canada M1A1 kits (there are three) are the Trumpeter kits right down to the instruction sheet. The Marine Corps kit has the parts for the Trumpeter M1A2. They have Hobby Craft decals which are really good but the boxs also have the Trumpeter decals.
