The Battle Beasts have very close ties to the Transformers, as they were originally designed to be an extension of the Transformers toyline, called Beastformers. When the Transformers cartoon ended in the U.S, Japan continued to produce episodes, creating three new series(Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory) in addition to a couple of one shot specials(Scramble City, Zone.) In the Headmasters series, the battle Beasts actually make an appearance in an episode called Rebellion on Planet Beast.
As Fortress Maximus cruises through space, two Battle Beasts, Rabbit Kid and Hedgehog(Porcupine) approach in spacesuites. They are discovered and taken in by the Headmasters, telling them of the Destron(Decepticon) attack on their planet. Galvatron and the other Destrons have aligned themselves with Gruesome Gator with obvious intentions to take over the planet. Meanwhile, back on Planet Beast, White Leo and his forces try to take over the Destron Beasts' stronghold but get the stuffing beat out of them and are forced to retreat. When the Headmasters arrive, there is much rejoicing by the Beasts, but they are unaware that Snakebomb has seen them and reported his findings to Gruesome, who in turn tells Galvatron.
While fooling around, Wheelie and Daniel run into a small monkey Battle Beast, who asks them to help him rescue his parents from the Destron fortress. They agree and are almost immediately captured by the Destron Beasts.
Rodimus Prime arrives on Planet Beast as well, bringing with him the Monsterbots: Grotesque, Doublecross, and Repugnus. Sending them with the Battle Beasts to rescue the prisoners, Rodimus and the Headmasters attack the Destrons head on, overwhelming Galvatron and forcing him to retreat. The Monsterbots help free the prisoners and peace is restored. To make sure the Destrons don't return, the Monsterbots are left behind.
