If your kitten should have an accident, you should take him to a vet as soon as possible.  There are a few steps that you can take to minimize any pain and discomfort until you can get him there.

Road accident:

If your kitten has been involved in a road accident, its is always best to assume that there are broken bones and internal injuries.

Remove him from any further danger, lift him gently into a clean, dry box lined with a rug and cover him with a blanket to keep him warm.

If you can see any bleeding, stem the flow with some clean cotton wool, or tie a clean handkerchief around the wound. Don't use a disinfectant. Telephone a vet and take him there immediately.

Choking:

If your kitten chokes on something, don't tip his head back to look for the obstruction as this could cause the object to travel further down his throat and cause more problems.

Ask someone to hold the kittens mouth open and have a look down his throat. If you see the object, try to remove it with your fingers.

If that doesn't work, try holding the kitten upside down, while pressing gently but firmly on his chest for a few seconds. With a little luck he should cough up whatever was choking him.

If this still doesn't work telephone a vet to warn him of the problem and take him there immediately.

Burns:

Apply cold water or ice to the burn. Apply clean dry dressing. Do NOT apply ointments or any other substances. If it is a serious burn then you should take your cat to a vet immediately.
