Typical Holistic Medicines
also known as Alternative Medicine

Here is a positive article about holistic medicine.

WARNING: Holistic medicines are indeed medicines. Whether prescribed by your doctor or not, whether agreed to by your doctor or not, your doctor should know that you are taking them because (s)he is more likely than you to know of possible interactions. If you are considering surgery, anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that a two-week holiday from holistic medicines before the surgery might be wise.

This author has very defined views on holistic medicines, a "Bias" that needs to be shared before proceeding further:

Holistic medicines are generally available from a wide range of suppliers, each trying to get your business from the claims that they make about their medicines. And they may be right - one, some of them - maybe more than just "some." The right medicines for a cure - or a substantial remission of symptoms - may be on the holistic medicine shelf of your drug store right now, and maybe for sale at many locations on the Internet too!

But which of the many would it be? Or would it be a combination of several? What do we know (or does the manufacturer know, for that matter) of the drug's purity, its strength, its consistency. What interactions must be avoided? How effective is it? What are the contraindications? ...and so on.

Unfortunately, the manner in which holistic medicines are sold leaves a lot to be desired. Many of the companies selling these products make claims that are not substantiated, claims which, because of their weasel-wording, need not be substantiated. For some instances, beware: it appears as though the "Snake-oil" salesman has reappeared. Other sales techniques include multi-level selling - which can have many hazards built in for the consumer.

The testing costs of new prescription drugs are said to be several hundred million dollars to meet the standards of the United States Food and Drug Administration. The drug companies pay for that, knowing that they will have a virtual monopoly on their formulation for so many years into the future. Even if the testing were only five or ten million dollars, who would pay for the testing of a holistic drug that is already in a competitive market, available from at least several others?

There is at least one instance on the internet of a protocol which is specifically recommended by an Annetta Freeman for CERI. "Holistic medicines" which have been mentioned on the listserv include

  • NADH
  • Lipoic Acid
  • HP-200
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • 5-HTP
  • Coenzyme Q-10
  • ...and others.

With this in mind, it seems more sensible to search out the companies in the "over-the-keyboard" drug market, let you read their summaries of what various preparations will do, and allow you to draw your own conclusions than to list the various drugs. Click below for the list of suppliers.

It is a sad fact that every web page like this must add "Disclaimers apply."
