About Support Groups
Support groups could be anything from a group of four or five people meeting at one another's house once a month to discuss what they have learned about Parkinson's Disease to a metropolitan-wide organization with paid employees that has formal meetings at regular intervals and multiple meeting places for physical therapy or even "neighborhood" discussion groups.
It is entirely possible that a support group in a large metropolitan area may be larger than a foundation such as Association Luxembourgeoise de la Maladie de Parkinsons. Many support groups have become charitable foundations unto themselves; many others have chosen to affiliate with national foundations, and yet others are entirely independent.
What we shall attempt to do on these pages is either to list all the support groups that we can find or to link to pages that contain lists of support groups. Since many small support groups spring up quickly and others fade away equally fast, your input on these small groups especially would be appreciated.
With others also trying to list support groups, there's no telling what will turn out. We will start with data at hand and see where we grow from there. Ultimately our goal might be to builid a searchable database with contact data and meeting information for all support groups on earth. Too lofty a goal? Certainly. But something to work towards.
Here is some information about how the support group files were generated. We include it because it will help you understand the extent and the limitations of these lists.
