Egg donation home page Egg donation - for donors Questions and answers

Will I be paid for becoming a donor?

The HFEA guidelines, which cover British donors, say that payment for the act of donation should amount to no more than £15.

Clinics are allowed to cover the reasonable expenses of donors. This means that, as a minimum, your travel expenses will be covered. Reasonable expenses include childcare costs and lost hours from work. The principle is that only expenses should be covered and that donors should not make a profit from their treatment. This is something that you need to establish clearly with the clinic.

You may have heard, despite this, that there is some payment for donors. This may be because it is current practice in some states of America. Egg donation is not permitted in certain states, but in those where it is legal a fee is usually charged by the donor. This may be upwards of $2500.
